Fixed - app now working again following change of router

Our broadband provider issued us a new router right about the time the givenergy app was changing. I went through the routine to input the new SSID and password into the inverter control system and it seemed to work ok. But over the last few weeks the app and website readout has randomly come and gone for days at a time.

So, if you do have a new router for any reason, I can see a case for trying the approach where you go into its admin settings and make them the same as the old ones - but I’m not sure that will cover the WPA security angle, (assuming your home devices fall for the substitute credentials trick at all).

Your Givenergy dongle works on WPA 2 at 2.4 MHZ; your up to date router will likely handle 5 MHZ and 2.4 MHZ connections, which AFAIK it sorts out with each device you connect. The current security standard is WPA 3, which is what I think my problem was.

My fix was I created an additional broadband ID especially for my inverter, set for, you’ve guessed it 2.4 MHZ and WPA 2 security.

The other problem I had when I started trying to fix the intermittent readout was that on trying to connect to the dongle’s broadband channel, it was asking for a password, and would not accept any of the defaults. I did a reset on the dongle - remove the plastic bung and press the reset button inside for 15 seconds, wait 15 minutes. After a couple of goes at that, the request for as password disappeared and I was then able to access the inverter console and make the above changes.

I guess that firmware update we’ll probably never now get would address the WPA security issue?

Lastly, there’s a givenergy Installer App on Apple App Store - doesn’t get mentioned much in the Give Energy documentation. Not sure it helped me but I just mention it, perhaps we’re not meant to meddle?
