Hi folks,

First day of solar and battery today. EV arrives next week and hoping to add a Givenergy EV Charger as soon as it becomes available (Dec 22??). Question is maybe a bit naïve but can anyone confirm whether the charger is designed to work seamlessly with the Intelligent Octopus tariff (and any other tariffs including export tariffs, TBH) in the same way as the Ohme one Octopus are recommending? I want to charge from solar whenever poss but also to have ability to charge on cheap rates from grid when necessary.

Thanks in anticipation,

Spotto

At the moment, no.
However, if you have a compatible car then as long as you disable the smart functionality in the EVSE then it will work.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. So surely the charger will at least work and charge my non-Octopus-endorsed Ev in some sort of basic fashion until the software and compatibility catch up. Or am I dreaming?

If neither the car or the EVSE is compatible then you won't be able to get onto Intelligent Octopus. There are other EV tariffs out there.....I think that Octopus Go is still available. You will have to shop around and see what you can get that suits you.

Certainly, having a Time Of Use tariff makes owning a BEV a no-brainer.

By the way, if you do choose Octopus then you can get £50 credited to your account for free by using my referral link:

I think that you may need to contact them over the phone and give them the code "iron-dog-348"
