When you set a reserve power level for the battery to say 20%, and you go back to the dashboard and the battery level displays say 40% does that include the reserve power level or is that percentage displayed ie 40% of the "80%" you are able to use leaving the 20% you allocated as a reserve untouched

apologise for any confusing in my question ...just had a Givenergy package installed and am trying to come to terms with it and the new language you have to learn

The former. 40% of usable battery including reserve.

Not sure the reserve level actually works at present though.

The 40% includes the 20%. You can check this my changing the reserve and moniroting the % SOC before and after. It won't change.

For completeness you should know that GE batteries are acutally oversized so that they can promise a high DOD (depth of discharge). So you should not need to worry about setting either reserve or max SOC levels to improve the life of the battery. These buffers are built into the system.
