Recently installed solar system with Givenergy 9.5 battery and invertor. Just thinking outside the box with regard to employing a petrol generator in the system to charge battery if there is a grid failure. Is this even possible? Any ideas about how to implement? Thanks, James.
Employing petrol generator in the system
Everything is possible, wether it’s feasible or worthwhile is a different matter.
Do you have a hybrid or AC inverter connected to the battery?

wouldn't a petrol generator cost more than importing?
Interesting question. I have never used a petrol generator, but I think that its 1kW will be much more expensive than imported one, especially if you use Aspen fuel. I believe the main advantage of a petrol generator is mobility, not a cost. Does anyone have experience with these generators? Cost per kW? Maintenance cost?
Unkess you have a very sophisticated generator, I suspect the waveform generated by the cheaper versions may well upset the inverter, as might the "not quite" 50Hz frequency output.
In the event of needing my own (cheap!) genny, I would isolate all the solar and battery equipment.
