Faulty system or meter

New user....don't understand why my meter is clocking up 1-2 day untis when there is plenty of solar & battery power available ? Faulty meter maybe ? Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Post your energy graph from the portal and we will be able to tell you. Without it we would only be guessing. However, as a precursor, your usage of 1-2kwh per day even when lots of solar is not unusual. But post the graph and we'll point you in the right direction.

There are a couple of causes for grid input when the sun is out and the battery is charged. Firstly, the grid and battery "talk" to each other to keep in balance, so when you look at your power graph you may see tiny blips of red below the line. They don't amount to much and happen to everyone - usually they aren't big - just up to about 50 watts. This is normal and nothing to worry about. The second time you can get import is if you switch on an appliance with a big power draw - like your vacuum cleaner or oven. There is a bit of a time lag before the battery kicks in, so you may see quite a large and alarming spike on your power graph. This only lasts for a short time, and again is nothing to worry about. If you use an appliance that uses more power than be supplied from your battery and solar, then you will get a top up from the grid. How much power you can take from the system is limited by the size of your inverter. For hybrid systems this would be the size of the inverter (e.g. 3.2 kw inverter can only supply 3.2 minus the losses you get from converting from DC current to AC current. For AC3.0 systems this would be 3.0 + solar power minus conversion losses (I think!) If this is the cause of your power draw, then the best thing is not to use all your appliances at the same time - if you have the dishwasher on , the other half is cutting the grass and you boil a kettle all at the same time, you will almost certainly end up drawing something from the grid. Finally, if you don't think this is the issue, and your battery is full and the sun is out, but the battery refuses to supply power to the house at all check out a few of the other threads on here around this topic - a few people seem to be experiencing this issue, I think they are mainly hybrid users.
