Off Peak charging

I have asked Octopus to add my Octopus Go tariff to the system but still waiting. Last night I set up the battery to charge from 00:30 - 04:00 and discharge from 07:30. At 04:00 the battery was charged to 100% but then slowly started discharging, at 07:30 it was down to 67% and lasted until 08:30 at 6%. I also noticed much of the charge was discharging to the grid although the export timings were not set. I’m new to the system it was installed on Nov 2nd, so still learning !!. Appreciate your thoughts

You almost certainly want to leave discharge mode set to dynamic (or eco). It will automatically inhibit discharging during the charging period (unless the battery starts above the target percentage, in which case it will discharge down to the "charge to" level.) The other discharge modes discharge at a fixed rate, and will go to the grid if there's no house load to consume it.

Probably want to set the charging period to be the whole cheap rate, even if the battery reaches 100% long before then, just to prevent discharge during the cheap rate. I tend to reduce the battery charging rate overnight so that it charges gently over the full 4 hours, rather than rapidly filling up at 3kW+.

If your battery is located outside, doing a long slow charge over the whole of your cheap rate period will help keep it warm over the winter when temperatures drop

Thanks Karen. DD I have an eco setting which is selected, but it’s not specific to the discharge setting as far as I can see.

Try disabling discharge totally leaving just eco on and time charge on and reduce import to match time as mentioned

If this doesn't work then select reset to default wait 10 mins and then add the charge time and battery option change only

I had a few problems after updating the battery firmware to 3015, but all sorted now (fingers crossed). But I found there is a difference between the mobile app and the web portal, and it is important that you do things in the correct order.

So, at first I couldn't get eco mode to stick when using the web portal, but it stuck when I used 'Resume' from the quick settings on the mobile app.

But I was left with an issue in that the battery was discharging during my cheap electricity times, then it would suddenly charge at full bore! I had eco mode selected and I thought I had timed charge enabled which I assumed would override eco mode during the timed charge period. But I had to have eco mode enabled (as I had) and only then enable timed charge (order important - but no apparent difference in the state of the settings). It now works as I had hoped in that the battery charges to 100% as soon as the cheap electricity period starts, and then the battery pauses (doesn't discharge) until the end of the cheap electricity period.
