Smart plugs going offline

My smart plugs when connected to my home router WiFi keep going offline but if I connect to a really old tp-link WiFi extender then it's stable.. what gives... Both are 2.4ghz etc

Does your home router combine its 2.4ghz and 5ghz channels into one so things can interchange between them, if they do share the connection that may be causing some hiccups.
