This looks like a great idea and I've been trying it out. So far, though, it seems a rather naieve algorithm that simply finds the n cheapest slots and charges the battery at those times, but it doesn't take into account the peak time between 4pm and 7pm when it's critical not to import any energy. I wonder what the roadmap is for this feature.

You probably won't get an answer on roadmaps here, this is a mostly end user forum.
You may be best to look at third party solutions such as GivTCP with Home Assistant (optionally with predbat) or python/powershell scripts, or wonder watt, or similar.

I'm also testing out the use of Smart Tariff Beta with Octopus Agile. Has anyone else had any experience of this?
So far for me it's only partly working. In fact the settings specifically don't lead to the battery maximising the use of the lowest rates, and led to my battery going flat on Monday 14 October just before the 4pm-7pm peak period. BTW I have raised this with GivEnergy. The first time I got in touch, their support person didn't seem to be aware of Smart Tariff Beta.
Even if Wonderwatt etc may have more functionality, most people who are not early adopters of renewable technology just want something simple that they can set up once (or ask their installer to do this for them), rather than have to invest time on an ongoing basis. GivEnergy advertise their products on this basis, so it shouldn't be necessary to use third party apps:

I found the same. The Smart tariff Beta (Import) doesn't work properly (isn't smart) and doesn't manage the export. If I try to programme the export at peak (4pm) using the Inverter settings it gets turned off. Not sure why. So I'm using Octopus R&D labs to control the battery. Seems to have worked so far.
It would be VERY HELPFUL if Giv would provide an explanation of how this works in detail, leading to an explanation of how users can set this up properly. Then I might see some benefit from it, or understand what I need to adjust.
But Giv do not provide USER documentation do they. Only installation manuals and glossy overviews.
