Batteries still discharging even though reported to only have 4%

Hi all,

I had a 2nd battery installed last Thursday (23rd June) to my fairly new PV system and it all seemed to behave normally. I must admit I did not notice it callibrating after install. I am wondering if the current behaviour is the batteries callibrating or if it is something else as the numbers do not add up.

The portal has been reporting that my battery has been discharging since 9:10am this morning. The battery charge dropped from 59% @ 9:05 to 13% @ 9:10 and then finaly reported 4% charge at 9:55. The portal is still reporting that the batteries are discharging even though my solar panels have roughly been generating 3.8kWh throughout the day. My house load is 500w with the odd spike upto 2.6kWh, my system is exporting the rest back to the grid. No where near enough to drain the batteries as reported. The portal has also been reporting that my battery power output was still in use even after the percentage stopped at 4% with the last spike at 11:30am.

I have a GivEnergy Hy3.6kWh Inverter and 2 x 5.2kWh GivEnergy batteries. I did update the Inverter firmware this morning at 11:21am. My Inverter has firmware D0.450-A0.451 and the batteries have firmware 3007.

Any help or ideas as to what is going on would be helpful.

If you've updated the FW, they the batteries will do a calibration.

Drain to 0% (the real 0% ie hit the low voltage safe threshold, around 45V) before recharging. I would get it upto 100% manually to make sure the batty is fully cycled. As the older manual update method required.

I did think that but I triggered the firmware update over 2hours after the batteries reported their biggest discharge drop.

The batteries have fully discharged now, they are 0% and are idle. I would have thought that they would automatically start charging again but they have been fully discharged and idle since 15:00 (so just over an hour).

The last reported battery voltage was at 15:08 and was only 6.96 volts!

FYI - The time was not correctly being reported on the Portal, I just discovered under my account settings that there is a check box to mark if we are in daylight savings or not. After I ticked this newly reported events had the current time.

The batteries are still idle but are at 4% charge and the voltage has gone up to 40.76 so maybe they are still calibrating!

I can't imaging that adding a NTP client to the Inverter would be too hard as having to set whether we are in daylight savings or not is a bit old-school!

As nothing was changing with the batteries charging I went and looked at the actual batteries and saw that the master (original) battery status light was flashing red.

I switched the master battery off and then on again but the red status light returned.
So I switched both batteries off and then only switched the master battery on and that started fine, and started charging. I have switched the slave battery on and it seems to still be stable.

Not sure what happened but the system had got its knickers in a twist about something.

How many times ahve we seen the old "turn it off, then back on again" thing work with electronics of all sorts? Even my DAB tuner has started to need this occasionally now, it must be catching.
