Battery managment - discharge to zero?

I think that I've read that an occasional discharge of the battery to "zero" is a good idea. I've made some attempts at letting the battery run down to zero, but always encounter a limit on the lowest charge level I can set.

Is running the battery down to zero something that I should consider occasionally? If so, what it the best method for achieving this goal?

If there is a previous thread covering this process then please point me in that direction. I have tried searching, but without success.

I'm not sure if I want to test this theory.
The default is set at 4%. GE advised to raise this to 5% "to be safe", but gave no reason why.
They also said not to keep the battery percentage bouncing around in the nineties. Let it discharge before charging up again. Again they gave no reason.
A lot of these theories are folklore and speculation - let the software take care of it. Set it to Eco and let it do it's thing.

4tea2 It is worth letting the battery discharge to “empty” periodically, and likewise charging it to fully charged as well. If you keep the battery part charged all the time then it can loose track of what the actual battery charge level is, resulting in a sudden drop in SoC when it realises the mistake.

Periodic full empty to full full helps reduce this happening.

And by empty/zero, let the battery discharge as far as it can do. The battery reserve is set to 4% as mentioned. In practice I find mine stops discharging at 5, 4 or 3%. More usually 5%. If it gets too low the battery will recharge itself up a bit.

I think that I'll continue with my current process...... full charge overnight, solar charging when there is sun, big export early evening reserving enough for basic home use, house consumption through until the overnight charge.

Possible include a late night export to remove any excess.

4tea2 If you’re on an EV tariff then this is what most people do, and include the export to empty just before the overnight charge to maximise income.

How long the EV tariffs will continue paying such export rates, who knows. But make hay whilst you can.

If you have a low DNO export limit or when you’re exporting you can push the grid voltage up too much then you may want to leave some space in the battery for trickle charging during the day, but as we come out of peak solar generation this becomes less important and may not be an issue for you.
