A week ago my inverter lost communication for about an hour or so - 00.15 to 01.15. A physical check showed the lights were all green, and according to my smart meter the inverter had started charging the battery OK at 00.30, so I wasn't too worried. The wireless connection has always been a bit feeble (inverter is outside on an external wall of the house; the router is inside close to the same wall, but offset c.3 m horizontally and 4 m vertically, so line of sight would be through c. 5 m of brickwork 🙁 ). I eventually tried disabling 5 GHz on the router, and (possibly coincidentally) got the connection restored.
Now... there was a yellow alert for fog that night, and certainly it was quite foggy outside (difficult to tell at 1.00am!). Obviously water vapour in the atmosphere (fog) restricts light in the visible spectrum. So my question is: Does it also restrict activity further down (up?) in the EM spectrum (ie around 2.4 GHz)?
Just FYI, fog dissipated the following day, I restored the 5 GHz bandwidth on the router, and the connection has been solid ever since...

Perhaps, I think the resonant frequency of water molecules is around 2.4GHz because that is the frequency microwave ovens use, and our old one does affect our Wi-Fi. So water vapour might absorb 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi.

Yes, 2.4Ghz is absorbed quite well by water. If it wasn't Microwave Ovens (which run at 2.45GHz) wouldn't work.

5GHz is absorbed well too by water similar to 2.4GHz. Air absorbs 5Ghz better than 2.4GHz.

If you live in a house 2.4GHz is probably better (longer range, better penetration of walls). If you live in a flat/apartment 5GHz or 6GHz is better (shorter range, more channels).
