Newbie to this forum - apologies if this has come up before. Have battery and inverter, EV on order and awaiting Givenergy EV charger to 'close the loop'. Has anybody been in touch with Octopus re their new tariff - Octopus Intelligent? They (Octopus) appear to communicate with the car charger re the best/cheapest time to charge the car - is Givenergy with their new charger involved with this? (I appreciate we are probably talking about different changers/products - I'm thinking about logical/systems integration level between Givenergy and Octopus). Again - apologies if this is covered on another thread.
Octopus Intelligent
Intelligent Octopus has been out for a while. I think that any charger will work in 'dumb" mode. You do need a compatible car though.
Do you have a Tesla or Jaguar? VW IDs are not currently compatible with it.
I have a kia which isn't on the list. Interesting as on many charts the niro is the 2nd best selling car and the id3 the 3rd in the uk. I'm guessing the current Octopus car list is more to do with the technology rather than popularity - assuming politics is taken out of the equation. When I looked on the Octopus website a window did offer me to put down what car and charger I had so that they could look at them and potentially add them to their list. My other interest is that on the Givenergy website they have an Octopus logo and give the impression that both companies have some sort of relationship (e.g. Givenergy inverter talks to Octopus Agile to give maximum cost benefit). Perhaps I'm reading too much into this relationship. The Givenergy EV Charger looks to do everything I want so again, perhaps I do not need Octopus Intelligent.

Intelligent Octopus I believe control vehicles through the Smartcar API BUT although Kia is on the list theres a bit more too it than just connecting. Octopus have to set up all sorts of data in regards to the various battery pack sizes so they can work out "how much" energy they need to shove in and therefore calculate the charge windows.
The other way is through chargers but again owing to limitations on Type 2 EV charge specs there is no way for any* of them to get the SOC from the car so Octopus just have to assume everytime you plug in its at 0%. The obvious flaw in this is that it'll produce massive cheap windows all the time and not work as indended so it'll be interesting to see how this pans out with the Ohme trial. (They are relying a bit more on the end user inputting how much they want & the theory being that if it schedules a cheap window and the car doesnt actually take any charge - because its full - then the cheap window is cancelled on your bill and you pay full price for whatever else you were using.)
GE & Octopus do have a relationship of sorts and Octopus still have the capability to control inverters remotely (the Octopus R&D app connects fine and can pull through everything live and still set schedules charge discharge etc. Its not too much of a stretch to assume this would also be the case for the EV charger once released to the GE API)
*Ohme being the exception in that it can find this out via a similar method to the Smartcar API
Check the Octopus App for latest cars that are compatible. Currently showing Tesla, Jaguar, Land Rover, Volkswagen and Ford as compatible. Kia, Audi ,BMW, Mini and Skoda all showing as Beta testing now. Alterrnatively Ohme Home Pro charger is compatible with any car. Downside is that Ohme Home Pro does not support solar integration so I will go for a compatible car instead and install a Zappi.
Octopus App update: IO support confirmed for Tesla, Jaguar, Land Rover, Volkswagen, Ford, Audi, BMW & Mini. Beta testing: Skoda, Cupra and Seat. Alternative (regardless of car) is still only the Ohme Pro charger. Zappi now installed and BMW arriving this month.

I am currently testing IO with my Cupra Born and Zappi. To be honest I have turned off the smart charge feature and am just using the 6 hr window.
Several issues
1 when you first plug in it takes 5 - 15 minutes to pause the charge (expensive)
2 I was hoping I could swap back to ECO++ on the zappi on the weekends for solar charging, but this screwed up the charing completely. I had to unplug the car and replug to get it all working
Still testing things though. I am just happy to know I can join IO to benefit from the 6 hour window.
