What are peoples opinion of voltage optimisers ? I have been recommended to get one with my solar install. Will it help my battery by providing a more stable mains voltage ? Or is it mostly nice to have but not really important. I think most of my household loads are voltage independent so not sure how much it would save.
Avoid it, yes it will maintain the voltage but for the lifetime of it you will use an extra 30-50w of power.

Yes installer / supplier is recommending it. What I was wondering is if it makes it easier for the battery inverter to feed power to the house if the mains voltage is more consistent.
If you have a huge industrial system/data centre or are a mega user and you drop the voltage to 220V and they can also smooth out any noise from electrical components on the system then there are some advantages. These people however have a meter that probably runs in MWh not kWh. The potentialy savings of running kit at 220V vs 230/240V here is large, albeit at a cost for the equipment and running it.
For a home user, I would imagine the suggestion of also purchasing some oil extracted from snakes.
If your input voltage is regularly too high. Speak to your DNO to have it reduced.
Dont waste money on the Optimizer, unless a last resort.
