
Battery dropped to 5% last night so I thought it would be a good time to run the latest firmware updates. Here is how it went.
After clicking the install update button the following messages displayed...
"Updating Inverter arm" (from 0% to 45%)
"Updating Inverter dsp" (from 45% to 65%)
"Restarting inverter and waiting for firmware to upgrade" (from 65% to 95%)
"Updating battery arm" (95%)
"Update failed" (95%)
At this point the inverter firmware version was showing as having updated from D0.533-A0.533 to D0.534-A0.534 but the battery firmware version remained unchanged at 1040.
The install update button was still showing so I tried again and got...
"Updating battery arm" (95%)
"Update failed" (95%)
Retried several more times with identical results.
This raised a nagging doubt and so I checked the battery compartment (after shutting down and isolating the battery and inverter) and sure enough there was no USB stick in the port! I inserted an empty formatted USB stick, powered up the battery + inverter and clicked the install update button again. This time I got...
"Updating battery arm" (0% to 95%)
and then the install update button disappeared and was replaced by the normally visible inverter graphical strip.
Now came the confusing/worrying bit because the battery firmware version was still showing 1040 and I had lost the button to initiate another update attempt. Had the battery update worked this time or had it not? The system stayed in this state for several minutes until the battery started dumping its remaining 4% to grid as a recalibration commenced. As soon as recalibration commenced the battery firmware version changed from 1040 to 3005. Recalibration completed successfully with the battery charging to 100% and (touch wood) things have been operating normally since.
Moral of the story: If you have a new battery installed, make sure that it has a USB stick in it!
