Capacity question - considering air source

We are considering getting and air source heat pump, ideally the batteries (could add another) and/or solar would power during the day. It looks like on the smaller sized ones they use say, 3.6kWh. Since we have the GE 3.0kwH inverter, does this mean that when the pump is running it's going to eat up all of the possible output from the batteries at any one time? If yes then it'd be pulling from the grid... which may not be what I want if I move to an economy 7 tariff.

Does anyone have experience with this? I am a bit of a newbie so any help is appreciated.

We have an ASHP and it peaks around 3.6kw when heating hot water, or in the winter for heating.

This level of load, would for sure use up battery fast. Your Inverter will supply 3kw of the 3.6 needed, plus you r house load, the rest will come from grid, till the battery is exhausted.

Depends on what type of air source heat pump you mean.
We have two Air Conditioners, which are Air Source Heat Pumps, so can be used for heating and cooling.
The output rating of each is between 2.5kW & 3.5kW, but to produce those levels of heat the input at maximum is only about 1kW. Most of the time, they are running at lower outputs, so consequently even lower inputs.
We have 2 x 8.2kWh batteries & 10kWp of solar panels, plus we are on Octopus Intelligent tariff, which provides at least 6 hours of off-peak electric (@7.5p/kWh).
We find with the above combination, we import very little electric at peak rate and have not used the gas central heating for more than a year now, since we had the above installed.

Ah, perhaps I am confusing input and output, and admittedly we are referring to maximum usage, though I do like to be prepared for worst case.

EmmetBrown Heat pumps have a Coefficiency of Performance (CoP) which can be anything from 1 to 4ish. This represents the ratio of output to input. A CoP of 2 would mean getting 2kW out for each 1kW in. When the difference in temperature between the source and sink is low, the CoP will be higher and vice versa. To heat a room to 20C when the source temperature is 15C will use far less energy than when the source temperature is 0C. The source can be air, water, ground or borehole. Using wet radiators will require hotter water than if using underfloor heating because of the size of the area being heated. Using a blown air system inside the house has the advantage of being able to use it for cooling in the summer.

They are a Toshiba & Fujitsu units.
The Toshiba unit was installed in 2016 and warms/cools our lounge.
The Fujitsu unit was installed in 2020 and warms/cools our kitchen.
Both work very quietly, both the inside & outside units.
