What time of day now the days are shorter

in Summer i always did the washing 5am when it was a cheaper tarriff...as the days get shorter is it better to do the washing when the sun is out, or doesnt it really matter as i have a battery?

Washing goes on if there's still decent solar, or if the battery is very full and I reckon it'll last through to 12.30am.

Washing machine (depending on what temperature you wash at) doesn't use that much energy in my experience. The dishwasher however.....

Neither should use a batteries worth of power, especially if you have bought them in the last couple of years. Our 30 year old Zanussi dishwasher has never failed us but uses 2.4kw per load. It's just been replaced with a Meile which uses 0.85kw.

Immersion heater if you have one for hot water will use more than either if your tank is of any size - probably 2kw if it is a reserve for an unvented tank or even 3kw if it's the primary source. Big electric unvented systems are even 2 x 3kw elements.

I let my batteries top up the hot water for an hour every morning. It normally only take a kWh or two. Off-peak electricity is currently cheaper than gas.
The 3 year old Zanussi dishwasher is rated to consume 1kWh for a full load and will use less water than manually washing-up.

My washing machine is almost 20 years old and uses 1kW on the usual cycle. Think dishwasher uses about the same (that's about half the age).

Certainly not running the washing machine at 0030hrs, too noisy, so that has to be a time shift using the battery (and solar if possible!). Dishwasher is a bit quieter but can still hear it.

Personally, I really don't like running machines that have big heating elements in them at night-time. paranoid maybe, but I always remember my colleagues house nearly burning down when his washing machine went up in smoke. He was working from home at the time and only noticed the smell of smoke when it was well ablaze. If that was at night then the house would have been lost.
