How do I set inverter to charge battery on night rate if needed

Darrel_graves set Eco mode to on (My Inverter > Settings), then set a timed charge to x% (your choice) during your set times and submit. Do this through the portal, not the app.

Nb that this means you will always charge during the time, it's not smart enough yet to determine charge levels based on weather forecasts, etc. unless you use something like Home Assistant

My system has worked perfectly with intelligent octopus over the last 6 weeks, but 2 weeks, but 2 nigthts ago it jumped back to Octopus Go settings of its own accord. Can you confirm please -- Eco on; Timed charge 23.30 to 05.30; Timed discharge 05.30 to 23.30. Thanks for help.

Darrel - thanks for replying.
I still am not getting this right and would be grateful for your further advice.
For the last 2 nights I have turned eco to disabled, and set timed charge to 23.30 to 05.30 and timed discharge to 05.30 to 23.30. In the morning eco has jumped to enabled, and the battery starts discharging at 4.30. It is only 80% full at 5.30. The Intelligent tarrif is low cost from 23.30 to 05.30.
It worked as I would hope until 14.10.22

JohnRoff are you making these changes through the portal or app? The app can be less reliable when it comes to making changes stick.

Do you have any other automations on through Octopus R&D app for instance? If so, remove them

Use the portal, not the app.
Reset everything to default (under Battery in My Inverter)
Set the Inverter to Eco. This will minimise import and export from and to the grid, preferring to power house load from Solar and Battery and use any excess Solar to charge up the battery.
Set up a Timed Charge to the times of your night rates. Set the State of Charge to the level that you want to exit the Timed Charge period at.
Leave Timed Discharge off unless you want to dump the battery charge for specific reasons (for example if on Octopus Agile).

This is an interesting read and confirms i have set up my bettery in the correct way.... however.. When my timed charge ends the battery dumps all power at what seems like max rate regardless of the load from my house, where does this power go? the grid?

Temporay fix i have put in place this morning is to limit the battery discharge to 250w so i don't just loose all the power and is roughly what i would see as a load or just below so at least i am minimising the day rate input from the grid... but surely this isn't how it should work... does seem very smart!!??!!??

Am i doing somehting wrong? is the battery installation suspect?

N.B. this is my second day with the battery, i'm on Octpus Intelligent and i have no solar...

make sure that the App hasn't got a setting enabled.
Do to My Inverter on the web portal, Settings and hit "Reset to Defaults".
Then reset it to Eco and set the Timed Charge up as above.
The battery should then discharge to support the house load. No power (other than small amounts) should go to the grid.

It's possible that the CT clamp is on the incoming tail the wrong way round? If it is easily accessible then it might be worth reversing it and see how that goes.

JohnRoff You need to turn off (disable) Timed Discharge as Timed Discharge over rides Eco setting.
Mine is set up with Timed Charge 00:30 to 04:30, Eco Mode: On, Timed Discharge: Disabled
So it charges up at night on cheap rate to whatever % I have set. Then after 04:30 the battery starts powering the house through the night until solar generation commences and then during the day, depending on generation and power draw for the house, it will balance the load direct to the house or into the battery or export if the battery is full and generation exceeds the house load as necessary.
Eco Mode essentially allows the system to charge up and down as required through out the day based on Solar PV and house load.
By setting Time Discharge to Enabled you are effectively telling the system to prioritise discharging the battery regardless of what the solar generation is.
