I appreciate that the total capacity won't be available, as some needs to be kept in reserve and for a buffer to protect the battery. I've noticed that based on the inverter reported per day discharge and charge kWh my 2.x5.2 batteries are storing and releasing 9.4kWh. This is 90.4% of the 10.4kWh capacity - or nearly 10% not being used.

I was expecting it to be closer to 4-5% as that's what is set in the inverter settings.

I’m sure others who are more knowledgable than me will be able to confirm or counter this. IMO The charge and discharge values wouldn’t correlate to the capacity of the battery as you will get losses in the conversion from DC to AC.

I think as well, to answer my own question - having read the KB documentation, the % shown on the portal isn't the same as battery capacity - it's actually 80% of battery capacity that's in regular use. This KB article explains it: https://kb.givenergy.cloud/article.php?id=10&oid=1

I think that article refers to the older batteries. Newer ones should have 100% depth of discharge as far as I know.

Sounds about right, the 5.2 kwh batteries are 90% Dod, so 4.68 kwh usable, 9.36 kwh for the two

judgepd Newer ones as I understand are still 80% Dod its just they are bigger batteries - to be fair it makes it less confusing to the average end user and less complaints!

what @anglefire has said here is true, we advertise the 8.2kWh pack as 100% DOD but actually its a 10.5kWh pack at 80% DOD, we have advertised as such due to customers purchasing systems to their energy needs and misunderstood what DOD is, so it is easier to say what you buy is what you get in this sense to avoid any confusion. The same logic as per the previously linked article does still come into play here with this in mind.

Adam-Reynolds Whats with the 4% minimum i have read about where the battery stops discharging. Does this mean the 8.2kW battery actually has 96% usable DOD or am i miss-informed? Thanks!

Kryten No no the customer is getting 8.2Kw but by design the battery is bigger. It has been mentioned on here in a previous post that it would be less confusing the customer if the 4% was hidden and the slider just controlled the 8.2kw.

With regards to the warranty on the 8.2kW battery it states 70% retention up to 10 Years. Is this 70% of the 8.2kW or 70% of the real capacity which is 10.2kW I think. If its 70% of 8.2 then that seems a bit poor given the 20% overhead already built into the battery. Also anyone had an 8.2 battery for more than a year see any reduction in the capacity below 8.2? Thanks!

Kryten Given the 8.2 100% DOD only came out around March 21 then no data for a full year. Not seen anyone in here with <160AH showing unless it's the old gen battery which is already lower by default.

I've the older 80% DOD one that's done 5MWh throughput (charged relentlessly to 100% 365 days) and has stayed the same 6.5kWh input each night (actually went up slightly owing to an update early on from 6.1).
Various calibration runs see the full cell capacity bounce between 150-154AH depending on when it's run meaning i still have a buffer of >1kWh before i start seeing an impact in real terms.

I seem to recall reading on the beta portal updates that the old battery management data page will be returning, useful in terms of battery health.

Like any warranty those numbers are going to be based on worst case usage scenarios plus a margin so that 70% isn't likely to be representative of real world use.

Adam-Reynolds This seems to be common in battery 'marketing'. My Kia e Niro is 64kwh but reality it is 67kwh. I have a 100ah lifePo4 in my Campervan but doing some checks on it we came out at 110ah which confuses my Victron monitoring. I have to reset & sync it to 100% when the battery is fully 'actually' charged after a long run otherwise it under reports.

mjkelly5a Sadly not all batteries are listed the same. The Vauxhall range list the full battery capacity not the actual usable. It would be great if everyone followed a standard and for that standard to be usable amount.
