Latest App Update (Android) Issues

We have twin AC3.0 inverters, each with it's own 8.2 battery, so the data we usually see on the App and the portal have always been weird, although you can usually spot what is credible, and what is not.

However, with the latest Android App update (v3.1.20.3137) a couple of days ago, it seems that the values we are seeing now are even more junk than they were before. On the main graphic the values just don't add up. And the moving power flow indicators are often contradicting themselves, by flowing in two directions at once. And I am seeing multiple IP addresses appearing in the Preferences area (about 40 of them, all showing the same IP address), which cannot be deleted using the dustbin symbol. And connecting to the inverters locally, using the 'Home' option has become almost impossible.

And, the battery voltage value is now only showing integer values, even though it is displayed (and used to show) to 2 decimal places.

Earlier, I was seeing updates every 10 seconds, when using the 'Away' option, which again makes no sense.

Are others (particularly those with multiple inverters) seeing similar issues?

ToothyChris I did see some rubbish on the app just now and had to enable "Search Inverter Manually" to delete duplicate entries with the same IP address for our dual hybrids. 6kW PV was quite exciting but patently wrong. The portal shows sensible-looking data.

Thanks Tim. Yes, we have seen some crazy PV values at times, today, as well.

And before anyone else suggests it, yes I have cleared the local cache data, using the 'Clear Data' function.

Strangely, I have another Android phone that still has an earlier version of the App installed, and that seems to have pretty much stopped working completely.

Has the app lost the quick commands - (I can't find them?) for "force discharge, Run, Stop, Force Charge???
If so WHY!!!

It's in settings, there's a toggle to show or hide those buttons?

Both my android phone and tablet updated to v3.1.20.3137 with different results.

When I go to the settings "gear wheel" I now get "Personalise your power flow" with options for Smart tariff, EV Charger and Smart plug. I can no longer access the "System modes" page, so cannot change charge times/rates whilst away from home.

However, on the tablet the settings button still gives me access to the "system modes", with no sign of the "Personalise your power flow" page.

I just want "system modes" back on my phone.

I too have cleared the data on my phone to get the power graphs to refresh. It has just occured to me that I didn't have to do this on the tablet. Supposedly clearing data shouldn't have affected my settings BUT perhaps this action triggers the changes within the app. Dare I try to clear data on the tablet? Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks

Confirm that my phone app has gone crazy. Home does not work, random numbers appear on flow graphic, battery graph has changing values every time it is pressed. Uninstalled and reinstalled twice with no noticeable result. Deleted data and cache which removed some of the problems with the battery graph.

Cannot get IP address to stick in spite of getting green tick when entering manually. Set up dongle does not work - says connect to dongle which it can do but it still says 'connect to dongle first when retrying after connecting.

App totally broken. Portal appears to be OK so far.

hhall Have changed "Change system settings" in Version 3.1.20 to allow permission. This seems to allow the Home mode - time will tell.

Thanks for confirming that I am not going mad.

I'm not sure what you mean by: "Change system settings" in Version 3.1.20 to allow permission"

Can you be more specific?

(I am having some success in adding IP addresses manually, but only for my other phone which is still on the earlier App release. But since our WiFi runs DHCP, I assume the IP addresses will be prone to changing every now and then....)

ToothyChris Drag down from top of screen to get gear wheel in top right of screen for settings. Open settings, Scroll down to Apps. Open apps and scroll down to Givenergy. Tap Givenergy and scroll down to "Change system settings" and tap on "Allow permission". It should move right and turn blue.

Access router and enter 192.168.1.254 select 'wireless' and then select 2.4 network. GE don't make it easy to find the dongle but it probably called HF-21 otherwise it is trial and error.

Hmmmm. The only permissions I see for this App (at least in my version of Android) are Camera, Location and Phone - none of which it would need. What permission do you think you are enabling, when you tap 'Allow permission"?

To all: Having got the Home Mode back working, and cleared the Cache and Data again everything has just about gone back to normal. I can only presume the app was getting random updates at odd times and trying to fill in from the Cache.

Scroll quite a bit further down to " Change system settings" and toggle it to on. It is after "Storage" and "Memory".

Thanks for trying, but that just doesn't match with what I am seeing. I can only assume we are on different versions of Android.

Just curious...., do you have multiple inverters (and hence multiple dongles) like us?

The update notes for the latest App version says that it is now able to directly communicate with the inverters/dongles, which makes we wonder if they are trying to connect via the Access Point which each dongle has (and which is normally only used for setting up). Our experience of connecting the APs has always been very painful - and I have always wondered if this is because each dongle is talking to the house router (both transmit and receive), whilst also operating the AP (both transmit and receive). So you end up with 4 different 2-way wifi communications, all happening on the same WiFi channel. I'm no WiFi expert, but my experience of RF (Radio Frequency) equipment tells me that is a bad place to start from.

ToothyChris No, only one inverter and dongle and that (dongle) has been a problem from word go. I am on Android 12 and Samsung phone. Hope you get it sorted.

When you click - sorry tap/stab or whatever the battery SOC graphic I just get 'loading battery data' and then well - nothing. As for the settings star wheel - settings unavailable. Hopefully someone will own up - who cocked up ....

I had this (no battery data and settings disabled) for the last couple of days, but today the app updated itself to 3.1.20 and the settings are back but but is not showing any battery or power graph data since the update.

Not sure if it is possible to manually force an app update (or better still a downgrade to a previous working version ? 3.1.16?). Anyone know?
PS I'm using the Android app on Android 12

I highly suspect the latest app build has been very much rushed out to get it showing "something related to smart plugs, EV chargers etc..." for the Solar & Storage Live show. (Given that ran 18th - 20th October and the 18th was the app update)
Now everyone's finished dribbling over the Ferrari we've all bought the boss I expect Monday they'll either be issuing multiple hotfixes or rolling it back given the amount of headaches it appears to be causing.

hhall " Change system settings" and toggle it to on. It is after "Storage" and "Memory".

I've just been following this as I appeared to have lost the ability to change the battery charge limit from the app (lost the cog icon on the battery page). hhall's comment above I think is a red-herring as that option gives the app permission to change the android system settings (which you don't want it to do) not the other way around.

I have now found that there is a new option in the app Setting-->Preferences-->Show System Modes Button which enables the cog icon at the top right again. Hope this helps someone!

I also cleared the app cache and force quit the app to get rid of stale data in Today's power graph

Thanks, I am inclined to agree with you!

Regarding the 'Show System Modes Button', that has always been there in the Preferences, but I suspect that the software update (or possibly the clearing of the cached data) has reset many of the users' options.

On top of the issues I reported seeing above, I have also noticed that the Play button (or Quick Settings Button as it is officially known) is randomly appearing on my App home page, even though I have not activated that option in the Preferences.

I have also noticed on the GivEnergy Facebook users' page, that one of the GE employees has reported that this highly faulty App will be re-released on Tuesday. I'm not going to hold my breath, and I can't imagine that they would have had enough time to identify and resolve all of the issues, that us unwilling guinea pigs have had to suffer.

Thanks yes that makes most sense that I cleared all the cached data and settings to try to fix the stale-display problem and then lost that setting for the system modes in the process.
