Setting to Charge by Solar or Battery

Hi, second day of use. Successfully converted to Octopus Go yesterday. Good solar generation yesterday and managed to draw down the domestic battery to 30% during the evening. Assumed (!) that Octopus Go would charge my battery overnight from 12.30 to 4.30 but it hadn’t started by 01.30 ish and was down to 10% so I set it manually to charge. Then turned it back to solar at 7 AM. 100% charge. Then realised that it would still charge by solar so I probably needn’t have charged it so much.

I’m thinking that, In summer and sunny days, I should just let it charge via solar as a routine and let the battery run down then be recharged next day. Only if it looks like it will be dull the next day (mainly autumn, winter etc) should I set it the evening before to draw on the Octopus Go overnight cheap rate to charge??

Is there some way of automating this or at least some way of remembering a selection of charging regimes so that I can choose quickly?

So, am I doing something wrong or silly here? Maybe I’ve missed something or misunderstood something. Any info gratefully received.

Spotto It's not your fault that your installer hasn't given you the hand-over pack. Just enable ECO mode and the system will supply the house and charge the battery from PV (or supply house from just battery if no PV). ECO should be the default mode. If you have an EV, make sure that the Givenergy inverter is set to timed charge for the same period that your EV charges overnight (whether it's plugged in or not). Set your Givenergy battery Charge to % to whatever you want to end the timed charge period with. We set ours to 50% in late summer, 65% now and will likely increase that to 80% as the days get shorter.

Tim Thanks Tim. It turns out that I hadn't taken on board that the app on my phone and pad seems to be only a paired down version of the one on the web browser, reached via my Mac. I've now found the host of other options available to me and configured the inverter to my requirements with a few deft key strokes.

In fairness, I wasn't suggesting that my installers had forgotten anything. They had performed the handover properly and told me the ways to access the inards but I'd only tried doing so via the phone app without realising its shortcomings. A whole new world has opened before me! :-)
