Wind & Solar Combination

I was looking at wind energy to provide a backup for a GIVenergy system when sun is not available(now)
Could the inverter allow for the connection of wind as well as solar?if the capacity is enough.

Not an expert but presumably if you were generating wind and solar to a combination above the capacity of the inverter it would clip the generated energy, so you'd have some wastage.

I was looking into this too, mainly because wind is likely to be more reliable at night as a tickover/charge option. The main issue I can see is that if you get a turbine fitted it may complicate getting an air-source heat pump later.

I think I saw someone ask this on a facebook forum, the answer was yes, wind can charge the GE battery but would need a separate inverter. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be able to offer more than this. Pretty sure we would all agree on wanting more renewable input in poor solar months, wind is the obvious one to look at but from what I've read, the tech isn't there for a domestic setting. Basically, the negatives far outweigh any small positives.

The hybrid inverter can take wind OR solar not a combination of both, the hybrid inverters string intakes are 11A each. Turbines typically put out a higher ampage which with the special firmware on hybrids combine both of these strings into one so a small turbine can be connected at 20A or less.

AC coupled does not care - it is simply there to monitor an existing PV system via a CT clamp and will meter and divert energy accordingly. This means the AC coupled could monitor a wind turbine and a hydro system, or any combination of two individual PV systems and divert this energy accordingly to the battery.

Thanks, I have a 5kW inverter and planning on putting in a 10kWh battery long term(on order) to upgrade from the current 2kWh.
I was going to add a 1kW wind turbine with its own inverter. Whats the best way to connect? can you connect the new inverter into the battery or should I just grid connect as well without any excess going to the battery?

bignelly That would mean using our AC coupled to monitor the wind inverter in that case, the 2nd problem here being you cannot mix and match our inverters, AC coupled and our hybrid will throw off figures on the portal.

If you were using a seperate wind inverter, you would need to replace our hybrid inverter for your solar with something else, then use our AC coupled to monitor your wind + PV system.

You can use multiples of our AC coupled, multiples of our hybrids but not a combination of the two
