I've been looking at my battery over the last month. The 8.2 battery is in my garage, and even then the internal temp of the battery has taken a "huge" dip. It is now around 16degC, and the lowest that I have seen is 13.
Is that bad for the battery chemistry? Is there any need to be concerned? In the extreme, does it need heating?
Thats fine. Take the 9.5 datasheet as an example. Charge temp 0c - 50c. Discharge -10c - 50c and idle storage temp -03 - 60c. My system is outside and covered, well vented. I was worried it would drop to zero but the lowest I have seen it is 9c.
I was just thinking, that some EVs have a heater in their battery pack. Is it possible the GE battery has something similar inside?
rio911 I think most EV's do, but I think they only get the battery up to 10c? I recall a video about changes to the battery heater on the id3's. They changed it so short trips didn't take so much power from the battery. I can't remember the details. It might be you see the difference on higher capacity batteries compared to home batteries.
I have been surprised at how little the reported battery temperature rises during charge/discharge cylces - rarely more than a couple of degrees above ambient. The inverter however does get warm, and the additional cooling fans I have fitted have been worth their cost to keep it cool. Did the same for the solar inverter in the attic.
