Dead battery?

I have (had) a two 8.2kW battery system. Worked for all of two days after a bit of fuss about it not being commissioned properly.
Had a couple of instances where the SoC would plummet for no reason and then the system stopped working so I went to check the hardware.
The primary battery had a flashing orange status light and wouldn't turn off no matter how long I held the power button.
Yesterday when I checked it's completely dark - no lights, no nothing.
Secondary battery is still lighting up like it's ok and mostly charged but the system can't see it.
Feels like a hardware failure?
Can I easily switch to a single battery until it's resolved?

If it’s the secondary battery that has died then just unplug the comms cable from it. It probably technically needs a termination resistor (120ohms) as it’s modbus but it will be fine.
If the primary has died again disconnect the comms from that battery but reconfigure the secondary to be primary by setting the dip switch on the comms board back to 0. Which should then match the current primary.

Thanks, I'd figured it'd be something like that. There's not enough slack in the existing wiring to reroute Comms and power directly from the secondary battery to the inverter.

Just unplug it if you can. If not just use a terminal block to wire it through.
Alternatively change the dip switch on the primary to be the secondary and secondary to primary. The order the batteries are wired is not relevant to their address.

Tried flipping the dipswitches over and no joy there but interestingly screwing the cover back on did prompt the bad battery to light up.
As I came to put the front on I noticed that the status was an incredibly dim red.
As I began to screw the cover in the lights all went green briefly and then settled back to the flickering orange. I'm guessing there is a loose connection there somewhere and when screwing a wire got pushed

Hum. Does sound like it. Can’t think what wires are behind the cover - apart from the main dc cables and the comms cables. Given isolating the dc doesn’t kill the display I assume that’s powered via the comms.
So given that you have both a flickering display and no comms, I would check both the connections to the comms board and if that looks good I would disconnect it to eliminate the board being at fault.

Aye, my current assumption is that the earth cable was / is pushing on something.

So after a little gentle exploring I managed to get it to light up red + 3 greens.

Put the case back on and it went dead. Applied a small 'manual adjustment' and the lights popped on again. Definitely something loose inside but doesn't seem related to the exposed board.

Things seem to be up and running although I suspect if there is any significant temperature change or something that causes flexing internally it'll fall over again

Well looks like I spoke too soon. The batteries report properly but they're not discharging 🙁

I'm having a similar problem with battery and inverter not talking to each other properly. Inverter moost of the time seems to think it's idle at other times battery seems to want to dump its entire load to the grid. NOT what I want.
It worked for a few days after commisioning then effectively useless, Support have asked me to swap data cable, done with no improvement.
I'm not sure if it's being busy or just the holidays but it's not going anywhere or being resolved quickly. At least it's winter and I'm not losing lots of PV while waiting for a resolution.

I'm beginning to really regret choosing GivEnergy at this point.
Took forever for a battery to appear in stock (at which point I ended up with two). Maybe that's a quality issue, maybe my installer messed it up, or maybe I'm just unlucky.

i think you need to arrange an engineer to visit and take a look for you. The master battery pack is low at 30V whereas the 2nd battery is healthy. Because the batteries are at the opposite ends of the % mark, you will not be able to charge or discharge them as one will go low, whilst the other is high and vise versa. I will try to calibrate them, however i do not think this will work as i can see you have been playing around with those settings already, 2 days ago.

Unfortunately it doesn't work like this. With some configuration, you can get the full battery working on its own however i wouldn't recommend you doing this yourself unless you are trained to do so. Have you spoken to your installer at all about this issue?

No, they're closed for Christmas.
Given that I took a bonk to make the lights come on it seems like more that a simple thing
