Hello,
I have just had the system commissioned and working.
Currently, the sun is shining, solar PV generating more than the house consumption and the battery is charged at 5%.
Why then do I see some nominal residual "export" values to grid? Should it not be 100% leftover to the battery until charged to say 100%?
Also, could someone point me to the right place to obtain an explanation of what "charge powrr" and "discharge power" means?

NoelPrivat you’ve asked a simple question but not provided context. Never mind we can work through this. You must have a hybrid inverter as your battery is at 5%. You don’t say whether you are looking at the app or the web portal and neither mention charge and discharge power. The web portal updates its data every ten minutes or so and is the more reliable means of controlling the inverter which will happen as soon as you press the send button. The app also updates every ten minutes or so but can update every ten seconds in Local mode but is less reliable in my experience. The app controls are also immediate.

As long as you inverter is in ECO (web portal) or Solar (App) mode, it will be operating as designed; to supply house load from PV or battery (when they are available), to charge the battery when PV exceeds House demand, and export to grid when the battery is fully charged and PV exceeds House demand.

If you’re on a time of use tariff (EV or Economy 7 etc) and your battery is running out before PV is available, you can set a timed charge for your battery during the off-peak period to shift your energy consumption to a cheap rate.

Charge and discharge power is the battery charge and discharge to supply house load.

Tim We have this issue too, exactly as Noel says... inverter exporting despite batteries not being full. At times it's exporting charge from the battery that we have paid for! Is there a setting we can tweak to stop this happening please?

RichardF 'At times' could mean many things. For this type of question it is extremely helpful if you can post an image of your inverter flows graph. This will help us understand the patterns and give you useful insight. Pending that you should understand and ANY transitory flow can be very misleading as the portal only shows whats happening at 5 minute 'points in time' - it doesn't average over the 5 minutes. If, say, grid import shows a huge peak at one point, relative to the general flow, it is most likely to be just as you switched the kettle on and the inverter has not had enough time to react. Likewise, on a day with sunny periods and the sun goes in battery charging will stop. But as soon as the sun comes out and generation goes high there may be a very brief period when generation is exported - before the inverter reacts and diverts it to your battery.

Post the image - you'll get much better help from everyone.

I have just started Octopus Intelligent, did a time charge during the night. the PV panels are not commissioned yet, ( a few more weeks)
According to the dashboard my battery discharge suddenly jumped due to a 2kw export. Is there something I had done wrong ? I was expecting a trickle discharge, unless I started cooking or similar

in the house.

AMCM From some reading around I may have worked out the issue.

I had a timed charge for the Octopus cheap rate, but I also had a timed discharge which also unknowingly includes export.

The correct combination is eco dynamic discharge and time charge ???

AMCM Yes. Unless your are using any of the GE supplied automations or Octopus R&D then your base settings should be ECO (dynamic in the app) and timed charge for cheap rate period(s). Timed discharge simply dumps the battery at full discharge rate regardless of home demand and therefore exports any excess. And, if you do ever do a timed discharge then be aware your inverter will NOT revert to ECO automatically afterwards as is the case following a timed charge.
