I've noticed that their a difference between the export power recorded by my Smart meter and the Inverter Data.

For the period 6 Dec21 to 3 Dec the readings are:
Smart meter 928kWh.
Inverter 892kWh.

Can someone help explain the discrepancy please?

Sorry if I'm being stupid, but I thought the two should be the same.

Steve.

as it is two different meters i would anticipate a variance, i am surprised that your smart meter gives you an export reading as mine from octopus doesn't. i can only see if and what i am exporting right now.

Glosgas the inverter reads from the CT clamp which is not an exact measurement. Smart meter (should) always be correct. Use the inverter export measurement as a guide, but rely on your smart meter for billing.

positor1 I think it depends which meter you have - SMETS2 all have an export register and you should be able to cycle through it, SMETS1 didn't all have the export function.

Thanks Cdent. That’s makes sense about the sensor. We do have a SMET2 Smart meter and I do have to cycle through menus to get to the export reading. I have to take a photograph and send to my supplier to get paid for the exported power.

positor1 Your SMETS2 meter will have an export register which you can read by pressing the button on the front of the meter. If you have applied for an SEG tariff, you will be provided with an export MPAN and your meter should start uploading the data to DCC soon after. The export may then appear on your In Home Display and on your SEG tariff supplier's app/web site for your account.

positor1 Do you mean that you don't have data in the Givenergy web portal? If so, have you set up the Smart Tariff card with your export tariff details? Our Smart tariff card shows both import and export kWh and £.

I have all that info on the portal, just not on my smart meter, have i mis understood earlier comments? I thought they were saying that i should be able to see export totals on the smart meter display from octopus.

positor1 if your import and export tariffs are with the same supplier, they should be able to sort it for you. Even if they are different, your SEG export provider should be able to enable the meter to update with units and cost although in my experience they are less interested in getting your IHD working if they do not also supply energy. The same goes for gas; if it’s all one company they’re happy to make it happen for you otherwise it’s not their problem. Once it’s all working on meter and IHD it should always work whoever supplies what.
