Hi folks,

Havent seen much on this and i expect the answer is no - but can you use other batteries with the givenergy invertor/existing batteries? I have a 9.5kwh battery but wouldnt mind adding another 5kwh at some point.. do i have to use givenergy batteries?

Cheers,
Mick

michaelmcgoldrick I believe your expectations are well-founded. The Givenergy system does like to talk to each battery's BMS individually rather than leaving it to a third-party device and everything I've heard indicates that other brand batteries aren't supported currently.

Can we install new batteries ourselves or do we have to pay for an installer to activate it via the portal? I’d assume it’s the latter.

simon_rb You assume correct.

While not specifically supported I don’t see why you couldn’t have multiple battery systems within one property, as long as there was a way to manage the priority of where excess electricity goes. Possibly on different circuits or consumer boards with separate CT clamps.

For instance it is possible to configure the use of Zappi or Eddi devices to only use excess solar once it is over a certain amount. It would also be possible to have an automation wait for a certain level of export for a certain period of time before triggering an action like changing.

Presumably, should it ever come to market, the Givenergy power diverter could also charge another battery, as is says it can divert power to other devices.

Getting it all working or an installer prepared to do the work might be a another issue…
