Additional Battery Added but seems to not be charging up.

Hi All,

I recently added another 2.6kWh batter to a 5.2 system. Today there was pretty decent sunshine but I'm seeing only 5.5kWh charged into the batteries and the rest is not going to the grid.

The app says the battery is 100% charged.
I'm just wondering why more of the energy is not being charged into the battery.

I spoke to the installers they mentioned that sometimes with the temperature the battery capacity can be reduced and something to do with reserves means you would never see the full capacity either? Is this true?

Have any of you ever experienced similar things before?

I had an initial 9.5kWh battery installed in September and another 9.5kWh added last month. After these batteries ran calibration (discharge/charge) they seem to have behaved - but for an anomaly:
Occasionally there is a massive leap in percentage - e.g. from 74% to 100% while my back was turned, and the solar dumping out to the grid. This only happens if the batteries reside in my target band of ₅₀% at this time of year.
It's cold today - a couple of degrees outside; the batteries were 2degC this morning and reporting 6degC right now. Solar was abundant for much of the day - about 10kWh generated - and so the batteries have juiced up from 53 to 90% (now falling back).
Portal stats indicate that the energy added to the batteries hasn't changed dramatically with those temperature numbers: the portal reports 8kWh added to the battery and that percentage delta should calculate at 7kWh. These numbers are comparable with a similar day (4th November) and the percentage uplift on a single battery. If you're losing around 1kWh I wouldn't think it's a big deal from the numbers I see. Your 100% may just be a recalibration artefact but you could check the percentage change over time and energy contribution in your account and see if they align.

The smaller batteries do not have 100% depth of discharge, meaning that you only get about 80% of the stated capacity available. I’d image that combined with the low temperature might be the explanation for what you are seeing.

So with 3 batteries, full capacity 7.8kWh. But today after charging the batteries 4.1kWh. The battery percentage shows and 100 and exports to grids.

I also have GivTCP and I can see the 3 batteries:
Battery 1 - 63%, temp 5.8C, last updated 3hrs
Battery 2 - 2%, temp 7.7C, last updated 14hrs
Battery 3 - 71%, temp 1C, last updated 3hrs

Does something seems off here?
Do I need to do something with GivTCP to get more up to date and reliable values?

althanator temperature will reduce capacity so that could be one reason, you could also have the SoC jump - this would be easy to see as the graph showing SoC will shoot up in one data point

Hi All,

Spoke to GivEnergy and they pointed out that the battery calibration was not completed correctly. They recalibrated and now my system is working as expected. I'm seeing the battery charge to about 7kWh when the charge shows 100%
