Eco mode, solar and off-peak charging

Hi all, sorry for the lengthy post!

I am new to the Givenergy ecosystem, having only had my setup for 3 weeks. But I am still baffled as to how it is supposed to be set up. And the installer hasn't been much help so far.

I set the system up based on what I understood from the portal's descriptions...but it isn't working as expected.

My setup is solar pv, and 2x 9.5kwh batteries. I am on Intelligent Octopus. I currently have Eco mode active, and have set the Timed Charge to 23:30 - 03:00 to allow both batteries to fully charge. I have then set the Timed Discharge to 05:30 - 23:30 to schedule battery drain to occur during peak times. I thought that sounded logical.

I assumed that, given the dreary weather we've been having, the lack of solar charging the battery was inevitable. However, today we had 4 hours of decent sunshine, and the batteries didn't charge at all. We use a lot of power as a household, so not expecting the solar to massively outsupply the draw from the house on a winter's day...but not even 1% charge. The app shows solar excess going to grid rather than the batteries. The installer has claimed that my Timed Discharge setting "prevents picking excess power"

He advised turning Timed Discharge off, and deactivating eco-mode. Is this correct advice?

I don't want the batteries to discharge during off-peak.

I'd like them to charge at off-peak, discharge at peak, and charge when there's excess solar production.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Turn off timed discharge. Make sure eco mode is turned on after doing that. Then check timed charge is still set.

If you set the timed charge period to your off peak hours, then it won't discharge at all during that time*

(Except for where you, say, set a charge to 50% value and the battery is already more than that - it'll discharge and aim to end the timed charge period AT 50%).

Eco will allow the solar to be put into the battery and will discharge to the house as required outside of the timed charge period.
