would anybody know - is it possible (and how) to change the wireless network used by GE dongle?
During the initial setup I had two wireless networks in the house (let's say "old" and "new"), now I want to use only the new one, but the GE dongle is the only (last) device still connected to the old wifi.
Yes its important you know the way to change the WiFi as if you change the password you can change it on the dongle!
I have considered making the GivEnergy one sit on its own network - I did setup a separate SSID to do it, and put it on a Vlan to keep it off the internal network so it can't access the devices on the network that I don't want it to. Put haven't got around to it yet!

I have checked my broadband modem for any connected devices, there are a few that I cannot identify (so no family phones, laptops etc.), but when I try to connect to any of them, none presents any web page on ports 80 or 443.
Also there is no wifi presented by the dongle (like WF-something). I tried to connect to a hidden network using SSD as a serial number on the dongle (so WF-something), with the inverter serial number (SA-something), but could not connect.
Is the resetting the dongle the only option? (As per https://kb.givenergy.cloud/assets/WiFi%20Comms%20Guide%202021.pdf)
You've definitely not got a 4G dongle or anything have you? I'm assuming your getting portal data so it's connected to something (has your new router / network got the same SSID & PW as the old one as it'll pick the best signal and hop on the new one if so.)
"Pinger" method - So this is a bit of a long shot (and on mesh networks that have their own IP pools really wont work) but relies on you machines ARP tables (which keep track of which IPs are on the network) & the dongles mac address - I'm not aware the mac address's first 3 digits have changed other than for the 4G dongle for which this exercise is pointless anyway although you can change what it's looking for if on your dongle it's not "34-ea-e7....."
I highly recommend you plug direct into the router your inverter was setup with & disable wifi to rule that out.
Copy below code into a text file and rename the file from "whatever.txt" to "whatever.bat"
Change the first lines IP range to whatever your networks base range is (without the last 3 digits - e.g "192.168.1" / "192.168.0" or whatever)
Basically this spits out a list of current known IP's on he system first, then pings every ip from 1-254 and spits out the updated list & hopefully matches a MAC for the dongle to an IP.
Also, unless the installers changed it, the dongle should present an Access Point that you can attach your phone/computer wifi to. The AP name will be the dongle serial number, something probably starting WF followed by 4 numbers, G, 3 numbers. If you attach to that AP you should be able to login, find the IP address, change the admin username/password, and set up security (and I'd advise you to do all of that, as by default the wifi is open and accessible to anyone!)

At the end I unscrew the dongle, connected to a laptop via USB and reset all its settings (as per KB).
Now it works as it should - I can see it is broadcasting its own wifi (access point), I can see it on my broadband router, can connect to it with a browser, and of course updated its wifi settings to use a different SSID 🙂
BTW - after all this I rechecked the list of devices on my network that I gathered previously, and I was able to see the dongle there (its IP and MAC)... but the network scanner that I used before did not show me any ports open there (especially 80), so I dont know was happend before. Now it works like a charm 🙂
I use netscan - its very good but I use the old version as its free - the new one they charge for. You can configure what ports you want to scan for.
I find the dongles absolutely dreadful to work with. Whether it's my phone, laptop or PC, the damn things always kick me off the network, even when I access them directly via their IP address on the LAN, and it's never clear whether changes have been saved. I setup a separate SSID for the two I have when they were installed last November, but ended-up sending one back to GE last week because it simply wouldn't allow me to connect to it.
don't know why it needs to be both Station and AP. Then again, I don't know why we can't plug a LAN cable in and do away with flaky wifi altogether. Apparently that's coming in the new version of the inverters...if only I'd known I might have waited for that.
Recently changed broadband network provider and had to go through reset. The Wifi connection guide is still valid but you need to know the following in addition: if having to reset the Wifi on the Dongle (most likely), keep the reset button pressed for at least 10 secs.; wait for 15mins. for rest to complete and when you go through the stages for WiFi dongles, wait another 10-15mins for reboot to complete.

Just helped out my dad who had changed his WiFi recently and so had to update his G3 inverter. Didn’t need to reset the dongle via the h/w switch. Was pulling my hair out for a while.
