Hi,

As anyone had problems with the inverter constantly losing coms with the EM115 meter checked all wiring all ok has anyone had any similar problems?

I had problems with the wire clamps on the EM115. They were too big for the light gauge CT/comms wire which (although everything looked fine) they did not reliably grip. This resulted in an intermittent connection which the installer eventually fixed by crimping ferrules over the bare wire ends and tightening the clamps onto the ferrules.

simonbailey No but the EM115 could be faulty. During commissioning, one of our inverters couldn't be commissioned due to an EM115 not communicating with the inverter. Swapped out for another EM115 the next day and it's been fine since. Does your EM115 display values that look right? What does it say its Id is?

You don't say how long the EM115 has been in service, but it might be worth a call to your installer because they can look remotely and if your system is in warranty, it's up to them to get you sorted.

Also ensure twisted pair cable was used. Inferference from the mains will be your nemesis otherwise.
Asweall as what Tim said. Cat6 is thicker and more reliable than cat 5

I had the same, I was supplied with incorrect meter ID2 it should have been ID1… it’s a gotcha and easy to check…. They all look similar, but there’s a sticker on underside.

IanDale The Id is held in a Modbus register within the EM115, so can be changed. It would have made more sense to me if it was set with DIP switches though.

Tim Most meters - or at least modern ones! - have everything set in the registers, some accessible via the front display - so often address, parity, transmission speed. I can't think of any that can be changed by a dip switch,

anglefire The Givenergy batteries use a DIP switch to identify which battery BMS is responding via Modbus to the inverter. DIP switches are a bit old fashioned but they are easy to read and modify, which could be a pro or a con.

Tim yes the batteries do. But it’s not usual for meters. In fact there are some devices I work with that have options for dip switches for crude addressing (usually in blocks of 10) and a way of setting an address (and other config) via modbus and then setting the dip switches to make that method active. Bit of a pain in the arse frankly - but often they default to 9600/none and I prefer 19200 and even.
