Right, when I first set my AC 3.0 to charge my battery to 50% one night it did. But, when the sun came out, as soon as the charge got back to 50% full, it then exported my power. I was expecting the 50% to only apply to grid charging rather than solar. At this point, I had yet to set up an export tariff. Once i went into the settings and set it to 100%, the solar then went to battery.
Yes, this is the (unexpected) behaviour which charging to X% gives. So it is trying to maintain it at exactly 50%, and not a minimum or 50%. If you add a timer to your 'charge to', then it will revert back to Eco mode outside of those times. So, for example, if you set the timer from midnight to 7am you can then charge to higher than that on sunlight, during the day. But if you have more than 50% remaining in the battery at the next midnight, it will EXPORT energy to the grid, to get back down to 50% again.
There are supposed to be 'Reserve %' and 'Cutoff %' values, but I am not sure if these work at the moment, or how exactly they are supposed to behave. Others may be able to give you more advice on these.
Please also be aware that the command terminology is different between the GE Portal and the GE App., just to make things even more confusing....
It might help others if you can explain your reasoning for wanting to keep a minimum of 50% charge in the battery.
The SoC target is just that. It works well for those of us who want to start the day with a certain SoC. If the actual SoC is above the target, the battery will discharge to any load, it doesn't export to grid as suggested by the OP.
Setting a "minimum of" value can be achieved by reading the actual value from the inverter and setting the SoC target to the higher of the target and the actual values.
ToothyChris the reason for a nominal 50% was that the day would be sunny and I was not yet in an export tariff.
I was expecting the eco7 to charge it to 50% overnight, then when the sun came up charge it to whatever, rather than give the solar away for ( at that time) free.
stevelewis there was no export to grid from the battery. The export to grid was from the solar. I was expecting the solar to charge the battery from 50% to whatever, rather than export it to grid.
Roberto check your settings. Sounds like the sun is up and you're still in the timed window for AC Charge...
OK. If you have Economy 7 then I would set the charging window to match your Economy 7 times, whatever they might be. Turn on Eco mode so this is what it reverts to, outside the charging window. By doing this you will maximise the amount of electricity you buy at the lower tariff. Then you can simply adjust the charge to % value each day, depending on how much sun you think you will get the following day. This is how I have mine set up, to do this (but there may be other ways to achieve the same thing):
stevelewis timed charge is 03.00 to 07.28. Sun isn't up until 07.55 at the moment. And solar doesn't really start for another hour.
ToothyChris that is sort of what I did/do. Currently I charge to 100% on eco7, because my current ( until the end of July 2023) tariff charges me 12.7p per unit on eco7 and I get 15p per unit exported.
I did contact GE and they agreed that the percentage charge slider should only refer to the timed charge. I.e., what I'm seeing is not correct. They passed it onto their software team to review.
Roberto so a possible bug with the slider from your other reply. I set SoC using the API and haven't seen this behaviour.
stevelewis Sounds like it. I only tweak the SOC slider via inverter settings. No automations here yet. GE said it was not what they expected via Eco mode either. As to whether it gets fixed.....
