Minimum SOC set to 4%, but after a day or two drops to 3% then 2%

Hi all

My battery is set to 4% minimum SOC which it hits when demand from the battery is used. But if there is no charging in the next day or two due to poor PV generation then it drops to 3% then 2% (like today). I think it hit 1% once. Then on a good day it will charge and then drain back to 4% correctly. Is this just a symptom of being a battery and it losing charge over time? It seems a lot to lose in a short period of time?

To be honest I am not confident the SOC reads correctly. I have my minimum set to 4% but my battery never drops below 7%. I just assume buggy firmware.

My minimum is set to 10% but within 48 hours (if there's no charge) it'll end up at 0%.

feidhlim Ah I have not tested that as if my solar is not generating then i charge the batt from the cheap overnight rate.

feidhlim That is my experience too. Very odd, no?

Mine sits at 4% - then gradually drops until it hits 0%, then it charges up back to 4% - or at least did the other day. Its currently sat at about 2% so I'm expected a charge soonish.
Just not had enough sun this week to get close to charging the battery.

Same here -today managed to hit 83%! If we do not get any, or little sun, and the battery sits at 4% for a while, if there isn't any more sun, the battery slowly drops to 3, then 2 and then 1%

We had enough sun today to get the battery up from 1% to 8% before the sun went and the battery discharged to 4% again.
Our biggest problem is a tree in the neighbours garden that the sun hides behind from about 10:30 to 12:30 - which is obviously the time the sun is strongest! It will be ok in a few weeks.

Our problem is that we are in the North West.... ;-). 1st Day since our installation in December that we have managed to get to this time in the evening without needing to draw from the grid - looking promising

We have two strings of 6 panels on our roof - 6 south (15' off technically) and 6 west. The west have done very little so far (Installed on 20th December) as the sun is simply too low to touch them so is simply incedental light. Shouldn't be too long until the sun is high enough to increase the yield. Generated about 3.4kWh today - with 2 hours of shade at least.
We use a lot of electric (>6000kWh pa) - not really sure why - apart from 4 adults at home with lots of washing! Solar will cover 1/2 of that roughly (I hope!)

Can't beat south facing. I have 2.4kw East 8 panels and 4.62kw West 14 panels, generated 6.7kw today, I have a mate who lives about 15 miles from me with 5kw south facing who generated 10.1kw even though I have 2+kw more panels.

I got 10.7kWh generated from my 12 dead-on south-facing panels today. Let the good times roll. We are huge chompers of electricity too πŸ™ About 8000kWh before we bought the EV. The worst offender in winter is the underfloor heating in the kitchen. It's a 2.2kW mat under a stone floor. I would have second thoughts about installing it again.

browellm I reckon I β€œlost” about 2kWh or so due to the tree today. So given that is only 6 panels would tie up with your figures.
Roll on higher sun!

anglefire I'm really lucky to escape any sort of shading.

It was be amazing if we didn't have so much cloud. I'd love to be doing 10kWh a day more often through Winter πŸ˜ƒ

browellm 8000kWh!! Wow! Last year we were 2,950kWh!

We have 4.38kW which is South West facing but like @anglefire we have a neighbor's tree which gets in the way a bit from around 1.30pm to 3pm and likewise should be ok in a few weeks when the sun gets higher in the sky. Yesterday we generated 6.1kW which saw the battery last until about 1am. Hoping for similar today and by early Feb could see the first entirely solar generated 24 hours of electricity!

My battery system would choose this week of all weeks to stop working. All that sun.

GrahamRead Hmm hate it when that happens. In contrast though my data says my solar is generating 40000watts at various periods over the last 3 days. Makes the rest of the graph look tiny!
