68% to 100% in 5 minutes?

Hi,

My 9.2kwh battery has hit 100% after being at 68% only 5 minutes before. Charge today says 6.4kwh.

My battery is in version 3008 and inverter firmware at D0.534-A0.534.

Any ideas what could’ve caused this or more importantly, how I can fix it?

TIA

You can not fix it. You have the soc issue, pleasse see 2 other threads about it and the beta firmware. Might see a fix role out end of Feb.... maybe.

THALL "Two weeks" 🤣

THALL end of Feb

Uhh I know its blue Monday but come on, 2023 is still new. A tiny bit of positivity please 😄

THALL See another post just started by another customer affected by this. I can't believe GE are still sticking to the line that 'some customers' see this problem. It's clearly everybody.

#7 THALL

judgepd I did reply to that one too and corrected the known issue from date. But it is not everybody, but the number who are not affected seems very VERY small and the number affected might still grow. Don't actually know what the trigger for the problem is do we? Or do we? I didn't go back to the start of the thread....

#8 judgepd

I'll rephrase, all systems have this inherent problem, some customers notice and are affected by it.

THALL My batteries are gradually drifting, four weeks after commissioning. It started with one SoC light different between them, now it's two. So there is a significant disparity already. Giv said the beta firmware has been loaded to our system but it clearly hasn't as the release numbers are identical to before. Not really sure I want to chase it up at the moment, reading about "progress" elsewhere.

#10 THALL

judgepd yeah ok, fine 😛

sponev mmm I worried about mine seeing over 30% capacity missing. But it did suddenly improve, I think there is more positive comments than negitive? Though I am not on the 3011 BMS, I am on the 3088 so maybe my testing is not accurate?

THALL I may give it another few days and then chase again. I'm keen to help but not when correspondence seems to be ignored. I've just read the latest updates and it does seem like there is some progress albeit a bit more gradual than we'd hoped. Looks like a calibration may be needed where batteries are way out as the incremental improvements seem to be quite gradual? At least there is progress though.

Seems like with the beta firmware it's 2 steps forward and 1 back...or could be 1 forward and 2 back!

I am trying to keep smiling about it, but keep in mind, this problem has existed for over a year so sometimes it's really hard to just keep politely waiting for a fix.

I've no doubt that the GE staff are trying to address issues and I'm grateful for their efforts, but it seems like the company is struggling in all areas: the buggy firmware; the supply of hardware; the delayed launch of new products; the slow or indeed complete lack of response to support emails; I could go on, but I'm sure you get the point.

#13 THALL

sponev Really not sure without knowing how many people on the beta test have that issue. At the moment I think 4 people have mentioend it on here? Not sure about other social's.

I have a similar issue, the battery was on 75% then within 5 minutes it was showing 100%.

judgepd It’s not everybody. My system has been in since June, 1.2 megawatts been through the battery, it’s not happened once, and I look at the graphs every day. 8.2 battery with AC inverter, I’m on 3005.

“ This is a known calculation error of the battery percentage, when you see this jump it’s actually showing its correct percentage. We currently have this firmware in testing and are expecting a release soon.”

THALL

It's 1000's of users have this error

Its a software error where the reading on the voltage is wrong and the software thinks your fully charged when your not

Today myself i went from 6 kwh charge saying 100% charged yet it's a 9.5 battery

#18 THALL

lifco Yes it is a firmware issue. But it also means you are not getting the capacity you paid for. Checking the data shows some of us are getting 1kw from our 8kw batteries etc. But there is a lot of good news as well, its not all bad. For me personally on my system the beta has become good after 6 full cycles.

Chedzey this morning mine went from 10% to 100% with only 840 watts input, I've been following the threads and all GivEnergy's excuses, but they still have not fixed the problem, which makes me wonder if this is an inherent design flaw that can't be fixed without replacing the battery unit itself.

I've been a disappointed intermittent follower of the various SOC issues (if only I'd known before installing the system last summer....), but hadn't seen the issue appear for me recently. This morning with some decent sunshine the system was charging nicely and of course then jumped from 30% to 100%, and then started exporting 😞
My system is clearly completely out of whack for SOC levels. Is there anyway to force a recalibration, even just to temporarily re-sync the SOC readings (until it goes out of sync again).

#21 judgepd

tk2 You have to ask GE to trigger a calibration.

Simpsonn My system was installed last October and this happens to me almost every bright sunny day. Again today. 2Kw of charge and then the battery jumps to 100% so for the rest of the day I am exporting to the grid. I then have to import from the grid to power the house. And pay for it at the standard tariff! GivEnergy support just keep saying they know about the issue. Really fed up with them. Thinking about asking for a refund.

tk2 Same here. Every bright sunny day this seems to happen. Useless system all winter.

Chinese New Year coming - so no likely progress for a month. I thought this was supposed to be a UK designed and built system? It may well be that this 'problem' is not high on their priority list. It is about time that they guy in charge started to ... Or perhaps he's a marketing man and just doen't care until of course people stop buying.

Kevinloader Its interesting, after the sunny day earlier this week and the big jump from 30 to 100%. The system burned through the battery that evening, and subsequent days since then have been more sane. No more big jumps and exporting, its like that initial full cycle recalibrated the battery.

K
#26 Kevinloader

tk2 Sunny yesterday, sunny today. Jump to 100% happened both days. Since installation in October it has happened every single sunny day. I have never managed to generate more than 3kw before it jumps. Useless and I really want my money back.

T
#27 tk2

Kevinloader Yea there's something seriously wrong with your install. Did you get onto GE yet? I had issues early on with my system doing safetly shutdowns, but after GE updated my inverter and battery firmwares, things have been fairly stable, apart from the odd big jump.

#28 lifco

Ive had the same problem for quite sometime, charges to 100% from say 60%

I have the 9.5 battery

But just this week im getting full charge, full 9.5

It's a bug (software) some days you get 100% charge when it's not, like say 60%

Some days you will get the real 100% charge

So what im saying sometimes it will fully charges and sometimes is will not, but say it is

GE know about this and hopefully are working on the fix

K
#29 Kevinloader

lifco They have been working on it for months. This software bug should have been fixed by now. Sunny again today and so the battery failed again. I only managed 3kw before jumping to "100%" then lost all the rest to the grid

K
#30 Kevinloader

tk2 GE have been telling me they are working on it since the install last October. NOT good enough!

#31 judgepd

Kevinloader They've been aware of it since at least the end of 2021!

T
#32 tk2

Kevinloader what battery firmware are you on? 3008 battery and D0.904-A0.903 is what they put me on, which seems to work fairly well, i.e. like what I had this week where it resets the SOC calibration/reading after it hits 100%. Have had 5 good days in a row this week without jumps.

My system just did this for the first time (installed 1st Sep 202) but not due to sunshine. This was an import from the grid. The inverter pulled 2.5kWh from the grid into the battery at 4:50am and the SOC went from 2% to 100% in less than 10 minutes.

I have noticed the the system does this 4am charge frequently and I thought it was to top the battery back up to 4% after dropping below 4% SOC overnight.
