Get them batteries on charge 5 till 9am

Get them batteries on charge 5 till 9am
Cough, 5am to 8am, Cough.
(In day adjustment is a three hour period, finishing one hour before the saving session starts).

Best set my alarm for 5am, get the washing on
TX200 yep, the 4-1 hour window before
£53 last one!

Not really the point of the system though is it.

The system as in the Turn down? or the system as in the battery?
The latter most definitely. Make some money from it

The turn down.

Well i do turn down when requested, grid draw will be 0 between 0900 and 1000. Exactly as they ask. So your issue is?
Am I misunderstanding how this works? I generally charge in the Octopus Go window - is there any reason I should charge to 8am? I've only got £2-3 most times!?
I don't really like the idea of gaming it that badly especially when it will be a good solar day that would typically mean I don't need to, but if the capability is there then I see why people may do it.
I'll personally only charge the battery if I would otherwise run out of electric anyway before the day ends, that is my middle ground 🙂

Begin car charge at 5am, cram as much in by 8am, then back to normal use.
Charge battery to finish by 0859.
0900 battery powers the house, sensible use, no need to scrimp on usage. Grid usage 0W
Max rebate expected
If you're going to do this I think you need to leave the hour before clear as well, so on battery from 08:00 rather than 09:00.

LordHippos That'll work too.
It's an interesting question re gaming the system Vs changing behaviour to move the load off the morning or evening peak.
If I charge my battery up mid afternoon (on a poor solar day) it means it won't be empty at dinner time, thus able to reduce my usage during that peak. And I get some Dosh for doing that (reducing load and/or moving that load).
Slightly different scenario this time with it being so early in the morning. Is there as much need to move the load? Not sure.
Will my supplier profit from me moving the load? Yep, they keep some of the money the grid give them. 😁
On the flip side I get paid nothing at all for the generation I could be putting to the grid so I will find any excuse to use it as it comes in, my supplier could be paying me a reasonable fee for it, but SEG combined with Go on Octopus is practically a crime in itself 🙂
I think Solcast says tomorrow will be a sunny day so battery would do from charge window to charge window with no extra grid usage, hence I probably won't import anything outside of the window on purpose.
So sorry, are they just taking the average of the three hours before to base the reduction or something? I thought they took your average usage over the previous few weeks ago that time?
It seems to be much more complicated according to their FAQs, using 20 days of data etc - and below point
Couldn’t I just game the system by using much more power before the Session?
We can’t blame you for wondering! But the cost of using much more energy every day over Winter just so you can earn more during a few hours of Saving Sessions just wouldn’t add up favourably in the end.
It's quite complicated,
They compare your usage from 9-10 tomorrow with the average of the ten previous weekdays (skipping those that were saving session days)
And compare your usage from 5-8am tomorrow with the average of the ten previous weekdays ... (Skipping...)
You are paid to save money during 9-10 compared to normal, but that's adjusted if your energy use increased compared to average in the hours before the saving session (T-4 to T-1)
Ah right, so I don't 'think' it'd be worth paying 39p per hour in the three hours before (Vs 7.5p at normal go slot)?
alphabeta77 it's complicated as if you sign up to Octopus saving sessions you get £2.55 per kWh saved compared with normal. Other suppliers, and some apps too, offer different rates.
I've also a feeling that the returns won't be as good on this one being only a 1 hour session. Last time I used around 36kWh and it worked out about 24kWh at their £2 25/kWh rate

Session done. In the 3hr in day window I used 20kwh.
In window 9 till 10. 0kwh
Let's see what i get paid.
Think will be lower than the 5pm to 6pm ones as our base load at 9am is way lower than 5pm
I didn't do anything fancy this time.
I charge my battery at the normal GO times, and it'll reduce my usage like it normally does.
I do think that the grid is missing a trick here. We should earn points for exporting, not just reducing our imports.
That would have been excellent!

Export on the hole needs an overhaul. The price paid is insulting vs incoming unit price. I personally think export price should be 50% of current variable price
THALL
Or at the very least, if you're on Octopus Go matching the off-peak prices we are charged.

I am currently planning for Agile. But just noticed my zappi dashboard is only showing my hub no zappi so cant look at settings. Trying to find some documentation for givenergy and agile to see how it works now. I used the old method using octopus labs before. I can't find anything?????? Not sure agile will work for me now with an EV.
THALL I know the prices paid by a couple of big energy users - and they ain't anywhere near the domestic price cap.
