Go Faster vs Intelligent

First sorry as this is not givenerg related.

I am wondering what factors you would consider to swap between these tariffs.

1, Go Faster 5 hour. I am on Go faster 2130 40.13p peak 5 hours 8.25p off peak
2, intelligent Octopus, I have been invited to Intelligent, 44.35p peak 6 hours 10p off peak + random bonus hours

Standing charge is oddly 0.5p cheaper on Intelligent.

I have 17.7kw of battery and since the end of October I have ran out of home battery power 12 times. But apart from that I am struggling to find a reason to change. There is increased talk of prices dropping from June.

Pointless to change? 6 hours at 10p also means 1 less hour my batteries have to run the house for.

What factors would you consider?

It hasn't been made clear to me how you stop the batteries discharging into your EV when the extra bonus hours are in operation without manual intervention.

I have force charged my battery to simulate winter operation on an E7 tariff for the last 8 days - and then used the octopus comparison to see what the difference in cost between our current fixed tariff, Go and IO. And IO did work out cheaper. A lot cheaper against the current variable tariff and a little bit cheaper than our current fix. Go was slightly more expensive.
anthonypar You would need to set up an automation would be my best guess to stop discharge if the EV was charging. Assuming you can get the EV into Home Assistant or another platform.

anthonypar You would need automation or manual intervention. GE might add this at some point. For now the option would be manual force charge or pause the home battery completely.

anglefire Is that the current 12p Go tariff? You see my Go Faster is 8.25p at the moment, that deal runs out in June. then I am also wondering about Agile from April, but charging the EV over night adds complication. If I was to keep it simple Intelligent makes the most sense in the long time, maximum amount of hours for cheapest rate.

THALL Yes I was using the current one - given that is the one that I would have to go on when the time comes.
But the app allows any to be picked (in its list) and does include quite a few none Octopus tariffs.

I don’t think I would move given the rates you currently have on Go Faster and the level of battery storage, but guess it depends how long is left on your current rates.
I moved to IO before my Go fixed rate ended and just before the current price guarantee was announced but after the up lift to the cap was, so it looked like everything would go crazy. Getting an extra 2 hours off peak when IO and Go rates were the same was a no brainer as with a bigger EV battery than previously we would have struggled to charge in the 4 Go hours.

dcsh Well After looking at this weekend I decided to not switch. If it was the start of winter then yes a no brainer I would switch over. But I am still hoping to get onto Agile around March/April if I can work out the best way to charge the car etc. If I was retired this would be fine, but got at least 17 years to go so need to figure it out.

anglefire Nice app! Do you know if it can load shift? Currently it shows my Go tariff is much cheaper but that is because it shows high load from 9:30pm rather than 11:30pm start time of intelligent. I am having a dig through the settings but can't see an option.

I'm due to get my solar (4kw) and battery (9.5kwh) installed next month.

I've been trying to work out the best tariff to go with. Does the app say (can't login until I switch to Octopus) what the Octopus Economy 7 rate is at the moment, as I presume it went up in Jan.

Also do Octopus do any other cheap charging tariffs that don't require an EV?

Hook Go and Go faster Need an EV (well strictly speaking that is). Intelligent needs a compatible Charger/Inverter. The rest, including the new Cosy tariff is open to anyone. If you want the latest unit prices for each tariff you are better getting them from the Octopus website as some people may be on different residual contracts for each.

anglefire Hmm sadly it doesn't look like it does. It just lays the new pricing over my usage chart. It oddly shows me that Agile would be even cheaper than Intelligent.... Nice app though

I have to say I'm still finding it difficult to interpret which tariff is best and what I can get with no EV using the Octopus site. They really don't make it easy.

EuanOatway Go and Go Faster are EV only. Intelligent needs a compatible Charger/Inverter whether and does not explicitly need an EV. Everything else is open to all.

The only E7 tariff I can see with rates against (Cosy has no rates when I look!) is this one:

anglefire E7 is usually 11:30 - 06:30 or midnight - 7:00. It depends on your region. Cosy is linked to the flexible rate. The two cheap periods are billed at 40% of the normal flexible rate. The peak period is billed at 60% above the normal rate and the remaining hours are billed as normal.

anglefire I think agile may be an option too, but I’m not sure how compatible the givenergy software is with it.

EuanOatway go is an option; although it's supposed to be for EV owners, a few people on here have it without an EV (myself included) for over winter to charge up at 12p. Only issue there is you only get 4.1p/kWh on the SEG tariff.

Economy 7 is an option, slightly higher night rate but a longer period. And I think you can get 15p or Agile prices for export.

And Agile is an option if you're savvy.

Hook Going to check into ECO 20 and economy 10 shortly. But based on the peak rate prices, WOW 60p a unit for peak. Ouch. But 10 hours at 7p? Hmm interesting.

That 20:20 is interesting, for those with a battery it would be a great tariff.

positor1 I have no idea. I would hope the 0.9p /kw is incorrect!

On the mse forums someone said you pay full peak rate price for the first 777kw per year before you see the discount, another older post says 222kwh per quarter at full price then reduced price. I dunno, but I am going to look into these further.
