I now have as of yesterday a solar plus battery installation…but have not as yet switched my standard EDF tariff….I’d be grateful for any advice regarding best alternatives…( I don’t have a Ev)
Many thanks in anticipation…Mick.

ONEIL what do you want to do?

If you're wanting to only use solar as much as possible, minimising grid import then go with single rate import, the cheapest you can find. Use Eco mode only.

If you are looking to charge up cheaply using the grid in winter, then use solar for the rest of the charge, either Economy 7 or another time of use tariff (such as Octopus Go) could be beneficial. Use Eco mode and set a timed charge for the cheaper period.

Octopus Agile could be an option if you want to look to try and minimise costs and automate this as much as possible. The Octopus R&D app/page seems to work for this.

If you have enough to export, it depends what import tariff you're on. You don't need to be with the same supplier for import & export, but some suppliers pay you more if you are with them for both.

Octopus Go for example you can only claim 4.1p/kWh, but other Octopus tariffs may allow you to claim 15p/kWh or even Agile pricing which changes each 30 minute - has been over £1/kWh some times.

Excellent…my immediate hope is to maximise my use of the panels and battery while minimising cost …export etc I’ll consider as I become more familiar with the system…
