View Current Settings?

How do i see what the current settings are of my battery? I have looked everywhere but canna see it.

Expand the inverter card and click on settings. That should show what you need.

I had a similar question.

When I go to "Settings" on the Inverter card, I see what appear to be the defaults; I know I have set Mode 3 (as it used to be - now "Timed Discharge") but it shows "Eco" mode as selected. If I click on "Timed Discharge" I see everything as disabled, and enabling it does not show the correct start and end times - all show as 00:00. "Remote Control" also shows the discharge times as 00:00

A further point - where do I find what used to be know as "Smart Battery Charge" in "Independent Features"?
I sort of expected it to be under "Battery Options", but it's not obviously there. Has it moved, or maybe not been implemented yet? I really hope that it hasn't been permanently removed, as this has proved invaluable with keeping electricity costs in check by charging my battery overnight on sunless days.

I have great hopes that the new portal will be a big improvement, as I have found the old one exasperating when coming to changing settings; the settings shown there are almost without exception incorrect/out of date.

P.S. - What is "Winter Mode", and should it be on? It shows a charge limit of 80% - will this affect whether the battery can be fully charged?

ChrisSullivan Do you require time limited discharge rather than dynamic eco mode?

I can't say I have seen the smart battery charge, but you could use the timed charge for that.

Cant remember what winter mode is for. But it has been discussed on the forum. A quick search at the top of the forum should give you the answer :-)

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I'm after time-limited discharge, and I can see that "Timed Discharge" is what fills the bill and is what I'm currently using;. However, my comment stands that the UI doesn't seem to be populated with the current values (e.g. mode/enabled/times), that I've set using the old portal.

Oops, sorry, I'd missed "Timed Charge" - I was looking for it in the wrong place. That looks like it's the equivalent of the old "Smart Battery Charge".

ChrisSullivan Chris, I believe Timed Discharge and Timed Export are not currently working on the new portal. They are described as "under maintenance" and the values don't commit if you apply them.

Thanks. It's fine that this is still work-in-progress, as long as in the end all the current settings values are presented and - of course! - that new ones are honoured. Without the current values being shown, I can't see how the original question by TimBishop ("How do i see what the current settings are of my battery?") can be answered. Potentially of more concern would be that one could imagine a situation where "Timed Discharge", say, had been enabled but with no way to turn it off again.

ChrisSullivan Agree it's not ideal as there is no visual sync between values in the leagcy portal/app and the beta portal right now. This should really be prioritised by GE right now as we are starting to get to the time of year where people want to really start twiddling/optimising their charge/discharge settings with solar output etc.

Yeah, I concur. People could get royally confused otherwise.

You get all sorts of weirdness like this if you use the app/old portal to change things instead of the beta one. Something that GE needs to address by either fixing or pulling the app entirely (given the beta portal scales OK on mobile simply directing you to the webpage would be enough)
You used to be able to force the beta's hand to go fetch them all by going to inverter > Remote Control > read all unread registers. I'm not sure if that still works.

Winter Mode: It's some firmware quirk - i'm sure i've written this about before someplace but if you charge up overnight to <100% then this should be on (otherwise it ignores whatever % you've told it and goes to 100%) likewise if you se it to 100% this flag will change to off. The portals all should do this automatically so you shouldn't need to touch it.

Except that Adam in support made a "hotfix" just the other day so that configuring the charge percentage via the API to a value <100% doesn't need winter mode set (any more) - even though it was working like that for me for months.

I agree, with 4 different ways to configure the system including API (5 if you include local control via GivTCP) there needs to be some consistency in the behaviours and in the terminology used. Or maybe just some guidance as to which interfaces we should be using/avoiding.

chrisdev Good to know - although the portal still seems to toggle it in the remote control page. Whether it actually does anything still I'm not sure (or that bothered to be honest as mines just been left to charge to 100% for over a year regardless anyway!)
I do remember the winter mode rearing it's head again lately in local control after things mysteriously stopped working - wonder if something had changed somewhere along the way bringing that setting back to life?

browellm Completely agree that the time of year for 'optimising' my system is not too far off, and would like to be able to set timed discharge to maximise export at most beneficial rates on Octopus Agile Outgoing.

It worked well on the legacy portal last year with timed settings for the modes, and allowed me to achieve some good income from the very high rates in September.
