charge battery at night on grid and in day on solar

Hi

 I want to charge my battery in the day from excess solar. In the night I want to top up battery with grid using my off peak tarrif. I can’t find away to do this. Any ideas

ECO MODE IS GIVENERGY'S SETTING THAT TRIES TO BALANCE BATTERY STORAGE, PV GENERATION AND HOUSE USE.

On the left hand side choose

Click on each sub header to change options.
You want ECO - Enabled
Timed Charge - Enabled
You need to set the start and end time to match your Tarif.
Until end of March its probably best to leave the battery Charge Amount to 100% (this is the amount that the battery will charge up using the Grid @ Off Peak electricity).
One the weather gets better you can adjust this so that your batteries aren't fully charged over night and the Solar will be used to charge up your batteries.

WARNING: CHANGING ANY OTHER SETTINGS WILL AFFECT HOW THE ECO MODE WORKS.

dragon2905 hi I also enabled discharged previously from 05.30 to 11.30. Should I set it to disabled now?

Yes - unless you want it to dump all your battery power to the grid! ECO and timed charge are all you need - leave everything else a disabled. People have had a lot of issues with timed discharge, so I would leave well alone - ECO will do everything you want - charging the battery from solar during the day - using the battery to support house loads in excess of the solar you are producing and export the excess to the grid when your battery is full. Timed charge is for topping up from off peak or when sun isn't shining. Timed export is if you want to sell electricity back to the grid at specific times (for example if you are on Agile Octopus Outgoing you would pick the time that gives most payback and forcibly discharge the battery to the grid for that period.)

Timed discharge sounds like 'at this specific time, supply my house with energy'. But it doesn't do that, it exports at full tilt. Which is also what 'Timed export' does. So... yeah.

Karen I disabled the discharge setting but now it is not using the battery to discharge for day time usage as it was before when I had the setting enabled.

I will monitor for the rest of the day and report back.

nileshkc Make sure ECO is set. ECO will have been disabled when your timed discharge was set. Settings can also get a bit screwed up if you mess with them too much so, if all else fails:

Reset to Defaults
Set ECO
Set Timed Charge if you have a cheap overnight tarriff.

If you still have problemes after this we need more detail and you will need to post an image of your flows graph from the portal.

cluelesscris I already set it up to have eco enabled and I have timed charged already enabled. I then disabled timed discharge however I noticed that it started pulling from the grid and not from the battery in the morning when it was still dark at 6.30 am. Previously when I had timed discharge set it was using the battery

nileshkc Note that if you have timed discharge set and then stop it whilst it is running it will NOT reset to ECO. Nor does it reset to ECO when it gets to the end of it's period. TBH leave times discharge well alone.

I think the only time I would use timed discharge is if I knew I was going to get a full battery (or enough for my needs) before the sun went down. But at 4p/kw it's not worth the effort.

MarkyG82 use timed export with an export threshold instead. Timed discharge is a minefield to the unwary.

The way the settings were explained to me by GE is that ECO is the over-riding setting.
Anything you change below that turns off that particular base ECO Setting and then ONLY does what you have set.

So to use the Timed Discharge example.
ECO Mode = Discharge batteries as required by load

Setting Discharge Batteries between 11am to 1pm
Discharge as much power from the Batteries between the hours of 11am to 1pm and NEVER Discharge between 1.01pm and 10:59am

So the batteries will try and dump their entire load over a 2hour period, first powering your house load and then any excess going straight to the grid.

nileshkc Timed export covers the house load and then exporst to the grid at the discharge power you set in the battery settings for the period you have chosen.
If you go to the inverter card - settings - battery options - there is a slidey thing that lets you set how fast you want the battery to discharge. Then go to timed export and set you export period. If your discharge rate is 3000w but your house load at the time is 300W it will satisfy the house load and then shove the remaining 2700W straight out to the grid. This setting is designed primarily for those who want to export power to the grid at set times - for example if you are on the Octopus Agile outgoing variable tariff, where how much you get paid varies every 30minutes. If you use it, remember to reset ECO when your export period is over, otherwise your home will be supplied from the grid rather than the battery- an expensive mistake if you are exporting at Economy 7 peak times!
