Saw this unexpected news here. Idea seems to be that the Canadian IONiX Pro Home SmartWall battery hosts the mining of cryptocurrency blockchains and integrates the provision of solar power into the process. So as a miner you can get paid for processing the blockchain but only if you also stored solar power in the battery.
Rewards for verifying battery storage of solar power using blockchain

jkazer There's already a UK company doing similar (Rowan )
I'm a bit half and half on this. It's one of those things that seems to good to be true (earnings of 10p/kwh of PV production) but then again I sold a bunch of Bitcoin in early 2013 so what do I know...
You have to buy the miner though and at £999 that's a lot of cash for a raspberry Pi in a box....
I know someone who had this when it was on trial - and was on offer at half price. He made a few hundred quid last year.
But yes it’s a rpi in a box.
But at £1k it’s too much money for me.
That Rowan scheme sounds so plausible - but it seems their public source of income is selling carbon credits, and I'm pretty sure you can't create them based on UK domestic solar installation. The general website info also doesn't mention any charge for the miner, which is a bit sneaky.
I do like the principle of blockchain and giving me credit for doing the right thing - but I don't think this is the solution.
(I guess this the chap?)

jkazer yeah that guy was a bit more pointed about it but I do get the feeling the inflated miner price is in fact subsidising the payments to people who already have one. Perhaps you could describe it as some sort of triangular shaped money making scheme...
