Bus over voltage error

Hi, I've had a "bus over voltage" error on my Inverter this morning and it's stopped receiving anything from the solar panels since then. I've contacted my installer but I was wondering if there's anything software/resetting anything that can get it back working?

Ok we're back online. It took roughly an hour to reset itself. Does anyone know why that would occur as we regularly get "PV over voltage" but that's the first time we've had "bus over voltage"

Searlee I'd get in touch with your installer because I don't think you should be getting PV over voltage at all. Later in the year, I'd expect there to be more sun, and these problems to become more frequent. The inverter is limited to a maximum of about 550V DC on each string. Either you have too many panels on a string, or there is a fault somewhere. Either way, it'd be prudent (IMO) to get to the bottom of it before something goes awry. I would guess that the "bus over voltage" relates to the DC busbars that carries the power from the inverter to/from the battery.

How many panels do you have on each string?

Yeah I’d echo @Tim on this one, bus over voltage is never good as it’s related to your panels (the battery bus is a different, lower voltage)
You may have some joy tracking it down from the portal if it’s a specific string causing it. All the voltages are logged there.

The DC bus likes to have its voltage limit respected or they do go pop real quick and you need a new main board then!

Try looking for a loose connection in the DC isolator - this was the cause of my "Bus over-voltage" notifications, and when it got worse, caused the isolator to trip. Vieweing with an IR camera showed the heat being generated. Tightened the connections and all is well. Caught it before the isolator got damaged by the heat.

Thanks for all the replies, I've had my installer back and they've split my panels over two strings:

Apparently "their subcontractor" worked out the operating voltage correctly and decided it would fit on one string but didn't take into account that they use more when they boot up in the morning, which is why We got the PV over voltage issue first thing in the morning.

Looking back over my data and that is the case (generally don't trust any tradespeople) but it seems to be what was happening, had this done on Wednesday and have had no issues since.

The highest PV voltage is the open circuit voltage when the inverter is not drawing power e.g. if the inverter trips (or is subject to an eternal disturbance which temporarily stops it operating) during sunny conditions. Open circuit voltage is highest during cold and sunny conditions so no wonder this was seen in February, it could be less of a problem during the summer when your panels are hot, but it's good that you have had it sorted out
