My battery stops discharging at 5% SOC. Is by design to protect the battery, or can it be changed?

Mines 4% - but 5% is ok - might have been nudged higher or its a rounding error.

And yes its to protect the battery - they don't like being fully discharged (Or charged for that matter) - best kept between 20 and 80% - the current 8.2kWh batteries are actually about 10kWh but regulated back to be 100% @ 8.2kWh.
If mine isn't charged, then it gradually declines to 0% when it automatically charges back up to 4 or 5%. (Which is actually nearer 25%!)

anglefire Do you know what the equivalent numbers are for the 5.2kWh battery? I’ve only had mine a week. It seems to take 4.8kWh to charge it up overnight, but I’m not sure if that’s the amount stored in the battery, or the amount drawn from the grid, which I would expect to be larger.

I don’t off hand. I think the current 5.2 are quoted as 100%soc. so will be 6.3kWh batteries (or thereabouts)
So to recharge from 25% (1.6kWh roughly) to 5.2kWh is 3.6kWh - so your 4.8 seems a bit high. Even if the 25% is based on the 5.2kWh capacity it seems a bit high.
I would expect losses to be a couple of percent in conversion from ac to dc.

That’s true for the older spec batteries but not the newer ones. Or at least not the upper end. Bottom end will be similar.
Which would make more sense if the 4% equates to 15% as that would mean a charge of 4.8kw takes the battery from about 0.8kWh to 5.6kWh so a 0.4 kWh loss. Which is about 8% - still seems a lot. But that could be rounding errors etc.

The 8.2 is the only "100%" DOD one (unless GE datasheets are out of date)
The 5.2 and 2.6 are 90% DOD so 4.8kWh sounds roughly right for the AC side given its really 4.68kWh usable.

I’ve found the settings now, showing 4% is as low as it will go. However tonight it stopped discharging at 9%. Any ideas why that would be?

ChrisRowe Sounds like the battery calibration has drifted a bit. Happens all the time and is very annoying.

A displayed discharged battery at 4% is actually around 15% real life discharged.
A displayed fully charged battery at 100% is actually about 95% real life charged.

A few % here and there, plus some batteries are bigger than their actual capacity ( 5.2 is about 5.6 / 8.2 is about 10.2 )

So very very roughly batteries are 80% dod of capacity.

Some are labelled as their actual capacity and other as their dod.

I think they are all going to 100% dod like the 8.2 to cause less confusion with the general public especially when they first start looking into the technology.

hmmmn. my 5.2 is 76% dod. my original 8.2 was 82% dod. Newest 8.2 is 108% dod. L:ooks like more capacity being added to individual batteries as time goes on?

ChrisRowe It's a known issue - I understand there should be a firmware fix at some point.

ChrisRowe This is a bug. Mine is set to 4% but stops at 8% now 9%. I raised a ticket and GivEnergy replied that they were working on it before Xmas.
