I have recently got my smart meter settings and added it to the App under the smart meter tab. I'm on Octopus Agile. I selected 'Standalone battery - Hold until Peak Time' expecting my battery to be charged up this morning, after using it last night and cheap electric between 00:00 and 04:30. When I awoke the battery was flat. I have also tried Eco Mode, but this didn't charge the battery either.

Do these features work?

For now I have disabled automations and will charge my battery at night, in the knowledge that it will have power in the morning. Does this sound sensible?

If you want a light-touch - then sure. But bear in mind that right now Octopus Agile is capped by the EPG. So the morning is as expensive as the evening. However, if you look at the outgoing rates, you can see that, without the cap, the evening would be significantly more expensive. The automation stuff I'm doing will sometimes choose to charge in the afternoon to make sure the battery can cater for the evening peak (see the grey bar in the image below for an example).

Before I'd finished the automation stuff, I generally had a charge period set from 01:30 -> 16:00 and a target of 100%. Which was OK, but if it was a sunny day, then I just ended up exporting everything, so wasn't ideal. There is an automation built into the portal that set the target charge percentage based on the solar forecast, but it wasn't as good as proper automation.
