I have a 3kW ac coupled inverter with two 8.2kWh batteries. I believe these are at a low state of charge, however the master battery has 4 green lights plus a red light showing and the slave just 4 green. They will not charge or discharge. I am unable to stop or start them from the button on the side to enable a full power cycle. They report in the settings menu as being Lead Acid 6.2 kWh two packs! I have tried shutting everything off as far as I am able and restarted, also have reset the system to default without success. Has anyone any suggestions that can help please.

Four green lights is supposed to be fully charged - or at least 75%. The red light on the master is a fault indicator. Look on your portal for any notifications (Inverter Panel | Notifications). This might give you a clue. If you are unable to restart the batteries yourself or you can but the fault remains you need to contact your installer in the first instance and GE if they are not helpful. Best option for contacting GE sems to be the Chat service in their support page if it's available.

I've got something weird / similar going on - a 5.2 battery that has gone bonkers over last couple of days. reporting as
Battery Type
Lead-acid
Battery Capacity
125 Ah | 6.40 kWh | (1 Pack)
and a Battery Firmware version of 0.
Max charge and discharge power has jumped up to 3000W (sure it was 2600 before) and now getting Battery Voltage High alerts in the notifications.........

I had similar problems when communications failed between the inverter and battery. I suggest you contact GE. GE replaced my inverter and battery BMS.

gonzodad The Firmware 0 is a sure indication something is wrong with the BMS.

Try and power the battery off, using teh black button,
Press it for 2 secs, let go, press again and hold, it will go off with a long beep.
Wait a minute, then power it on again, single press will do

I’ve equally had this with a firmware update that didn’t take. Have you tried updating lately?
(Mine turned out to be a corrupt USB in the battery)

TheDragon (GivEnergy) thanks - will give that a go. did try a inverter restart and reset to default settings yesterday, but sounds like it needs something more than software.

hoggy no. it was all working as I wanted it before, so just left it. perhaps GE have done a remote update that has gone nuts!

Thanks all for the input, the issue is now resolved, it was the BMS in the Master battery had frozen, I couldn't reset the battery to reset the issue. Very kindly Martin Phipps walked me through the reset procedure, now everything is working well. So a huge thanks to Martin for helping out on a Sunday morning, I really didn't expect this level help at the weekend.
Thanks Martin 😊

Guzz reset procedure,

Is this something that was easy to do? Is it something that should go in @hoggy's Wiki?

I'm not sure whether this is something that the end user would like to attempt or indeed be competent to safely perform. I happen to be an electrician and coincidentally have also attended the Givenergy online installer training. It involves taking the cover off the battery and disconnecting the feed to a circuit board. I guess a visit from the installer or Givenergy would be the more common course of action.

Guzz glad you got it sorted. I don't have that level of competence, so will need to call installer / GE as I have a similar issue. do you know if its going to cause a problem long term to run it as it is, or should I shut everything down until someone can come take a look ?

Guzz suspect this is similar to "jump starting" a pack when it drops below the voltage level the BMS will turn on at. (which is an ironic situation meaning you can't turn the pack on to charge it up to get it out of BMS undervolt lockout!)
Also a spark but I wouldn't want everyone poking around in there as you are essentially bypassing all the protection and DC bites hurt like hell!

sent a note to GE and my installer and installer immediately replied to say it looks like the comms cable between inverter and Battery had come loose. what led them to this diagnosis was the battery temp being a minus number. GE support agreed. I checked the logs and could see when it went from + to negative and this coincided with someone working in my garage (where battery etc located). installer popped out today and reseated the cable and things seem to have gone back to normal (as far as battery temp / % etc). still reporting a battery firmware of 0, but I haven't done a restart or anything yet with the cable reattached.

everything back to normal now - showing firmware 3009, charge / discharge power at 2600W and back to a Li-ion 5.22 KW battery.

That comms cable is stupid, there’s no latch it’s just held in with friction. Anything disturbing the cable can pull it out!
