Unexpected battery discharge / charge cycle?

Hi all.
Still pretty new to all this - so please be tolerant!

We have a battery and solar, but timed charge the battery overnight to 85%. (We are on Octopus Agile.)

Having worked exactly as expected for a couple of weeks .... At 6pm last night, my battery unilaterally decided to discharge (from nearly full) to empty, and then charge up to 100%. About 7am this morning the system switched back to drawing from the battery, not the grid. I don't think I changed any settings - so I'm at a loss as to why it did this. Can anyone shed any light?

Unilaterally charging the battery from empty to full at a time I don't chose (thus not picking cheapest electricity) is not in my plan! And neither is discharging to the grid electricity that I've paid for!

Any enlightenment appreciated! (Could I have changed a setting by accident?)

GEF Are we talking actual export then import, or just figures showing a drop then increase in SoC?

Can you check if there has been a firmware update? Or do you know if you initiated one?

GEF Have you got Octopus automations set? If so, either disable them or speak to Octopus about why their automation did this for you. It could be that the export at 6pm last night was at a very high price and then the battery charged at a lower price - OA working as designed?

Failing any automations being set, from the web portal, Inverter Card, Settings, click on the Reset to Defaults at the bottom and submit. You should get a green positive confirmation message. Then check that ECO mode is enabled and that you timed charge is set to the right start and finish times with your Charge to % as you see fit.

As far as I can see it was an actual export and import. (What is Soc?) I didn't knowingly trigger a firmware update. On the webpage the latest firmware update time is just a "--" marker.

No Octopus automations are set up. and we are not paid for exports. So we exported for "free" and paid to re-charge.

I considered a "factory reset" but at the end of the day that is not a solution really - just a work around. I'd like to understand what happened.

GEF SoC is state of charge, or %age charged. Some users have seen their battery drop a large percentage instantaneously and also rise as well. If it's actual discharge/charge when was your battery installed? If recent, this could have been the commissioning run

Ah! Thank you. No - it was real. I can see in the cost to re-charge. And the discharge / recharge followed the correct max current profiles.

Battery installed December - it did a commissioning cycle then, but I expected that.

That sounds like it was an unplanned calibration cycle. Some users have reported this same behavior, and GE have never been able to explain why it happens.

If it happens again, you can mitigate the damage to some extent, by reducing the discharge rate, so that most of the energy goes to your home, rather than back to the grid.
