Hello, just had Gen 2 3.6kw inverter installed with 9.6kwh battery. Its working great, portal is far better than I anticipated but I have a question around the operating range. I note that minimum is 4% and maximum is 96%. The battery was marketed as having 100% DoD so can someone enlighten me as to whether this can be changed or, as I suspect, its a battery management thing that cannot. Thanks, Chris
Welcome Chris, If I remember correctly, your battery is actually bigger than the indicated capacity. GE then limit it to both protect the battery, and allow a bit extra for age-related drops in capacity, over time. The 4% is then locked as your minimum (it's probably actually about 14%, in reality), so there are a few percent left to power the inverter, in the event of no solar or grid power.
So you may see it going below 4%, which is safe, but when you get down to c.0% (probably 10% in reality) a safety grid charge will automatically kick in, bringing it back up a bit.

snecklifter The maximum is 100%. The 96% you are seeing is the usable (100% minus the 4% reserve). If you change the reserve to 20% you will see the 96% usable change to 80%.

snecklifter Yep, that's another GE con. - I believe this is what you call false advertising. Their website still claims that you get 100% discharge on 9.6kWh battery.

I've always understood that 100% to 4% should represent the full capacity of your battery i.e. 8.2kWh in my case. Happy to be corrected or confirmed.
alfwro the 9.5kwh is the useable capacity.
The battery is actually nearer 11 internally.
