I was sent a new modem by BT ahead of having their full fibre installed. Installation was delayed but I decided to swap over modems. Managed to get all phones iPads on new modem but could not get the inverter connected to it. I have a dongle. Swapped back to original modem it started working again. I have my fibre being fitted soon, so any tips on how to get my inverter connected to my new modem?
Dougn Usual answer is to change the SSID and password on your new router to be the same as your old and then there's no need to change any passwords on any devices.
Tim Make this your first task whenever you chang BB suppliers and/or router. Just change the SSID and Password to the same as your old one and you never have to mess about with anything else. I have gone one stage further and use a 3rd party router with much more power, better firewall and throughput. Essential if, like me, you ar upgrading your house to be smarter. So many wifi connections and devices to worry about.
Hmm for ease of use then ok. But take it as a chance to change/refresh your security. Most people rarely change their wifi passwords and they really should. The guide below explains how to connect to the dongle to change the wifi etc. Your installer should have left you details of what they changed the default password too, if they changed it.

Not great technically so how do I change the SSID and password on the new router?
Dougn each router is different, but typically once you log in to the user interface there will be something like WiFi Settings or Wireless Settings. In there it should mention something like network name or SSID. You can change this along with the password here
Dougn "Just Google it". If it's a BT Home Hub try this link. To change the SSID, go to your homehub url, enter the admin password (it's on the WIFI label), click on Home-wireless-Change Settings, then change the "Network name:" to be the same as your old one. Change the "Security password:" further down and it's done.
What I have done is to change the SSID name to something meaningful to me (MyPlace, OurHome, DogHouse etc) and so it doesn't matter how many times I change the router, it's always the same SSID and password. All passwords have to be set up for this once (including wifi dongle), but once done, never again!
