Charging and using 9.5Ah battery

Hello all, I'm a newbie so be gentle.

I'm sure my question is a simple one but I've had my solar/battery system for only one day and need a bit of assurance. Currently I have a cheap rate slot from 11pm to 8am. I want to charge the battery in this period for obvious reasons. I want to enter the peak rate period with a full battery to guarantee that my days usage is all from the battery if possible. I estimate that it takes around 3 hours to charge the battery.
What happens if I start the charging at 11pm. Will the battery drain after it is charged or will it be held at 100% until 8am. In other words I don't want to be starting the day with a depleted battery at 8pm. Please advise me of the best method of achieving this using the Givenergy app.

Set your overnight charging window to 11.05pm to 7:55am (just in case of any slight differences in clocks). That way the battery will be held at your target charge % up until 7:55.

Set Eco to on and do NOT set any kind of discharge window.

With a bit of practice you will be able to adjust the charge to %, each night, based on the following day's weather.

Ademission also to build on this, I have found it is better to charge at a rate just to complete charge before the off peak window ends, with the added advantage that the battery temperature is stable over the charging window. You will also start working out that you only want to charge to e.g. 80% because solar will take over the next day, so you set the charge rate at less to achieve this.

Thanks for the info. That seems to make a lot of sense as the battery won't discharge when it is in a charge period. I have one question from your reply. Where is the "Eco" setting?

Ademission in the app, choose settings top right, charge mode solar and grid, times to suit, charge up to 100% (or less of you want less), charge power at the rate you want. E.g. battery starts window at 20% and you want 100%, so 9.5x.8=7.6kWh. Then if charge window is 7hrs, 7.6/7=1085W. Just remember if you're using the app to revert the charge rate to maximum in the morning otherwise you'll restrict solar to battery. Many people on here will say the portal is much better than the app but I successfully manage this process using the app.

Thanks Andy.

I just watched a YouTube video by Daniel Coe and that said the same. Based on my vast experience of solar charging (1 day), I found that my house used more power than the peak output from the panels because of the snow and a dull sky. To start with I'll set 100% and as the weather improves I'll adjust accordingly. Thanks again for your valuable reply.

Ademission Not sure how big your battery is, but I would start by charging to 80-90%. That way you do not export/give away any solar energy that you happen to generate in the morning (if your solar exceeds what your house uses at that point in time). To put it another way, leave a bit of space in the battery for the solar panels to fill up.

But if your battery is very small, and you know you will empty it during the day, then perhaps 100% would be more logical. It all depends on your particular circumstances. But there is nothing more frustrating than having too much energy!

I use the Portal, so 'Eco' is the terminology used. In the App I think the equivalent is Discharge Mode = Dynamic.

Thanks Chris. I understand what you are saying now. For the next 2 or 3 days though I'll try 100% because my home usage is higher than the bad weather solar. By the way, my battery is the Givenergy 9.5kWh.
