I want to set my Smart Plug to switch on when my battery hits 100% so I can use the excess power to charge my hybrid car (that uses a standard 3 pin connector) instead of the pittence I get back from Octopus. Has anyone successfully set this up?

CulleyKT You don't say which smart plug you are using. Just in case it isn't the GE one - make sure it switches a minimum of 16A. Most off the shelf smart plugs are 10A or less.

CulleyKT Do you use Alexa or Google Home?
Not being an active Alexa user I don't know its capabilities with the 'Ask GivEnergy' skill command but I would have hoped that Alexa would be able to do it.
If/when GivEnergy provide Google Home users the same access I would certainly expect to be able to do it in the same way as switching on a heater when Temperature = x degrees

Set up home assistant for the same reason, not charging a car though. If my battery is over 80% and the export value is over a certain number, then turn my tado controlled air con on and a dehumidifier.
They turn off if the battery starts dropping too far.
Got a wyse off eBay, I will need to buy a bigger hard drive for it at some point, it’s only for 4gb ram and a 16gb SSD!
Early days but it was working the other day when we finally had a decent amount of sun!

Thanks for all the replies! Yes it's a GE smart plug I'm using so the power usage is OK as my car only charges at 2kw. I'm a google house and so far I can't find a simple way to control anything to do with my GE kit from my google home assistant. Seems logical for GE to be able to do this and if its coming then great, would love to know when before I go down the rabbit hole of workarounds!

Might want to be wary of using a smart plug to control car charging. Turning on isn't so bad, since the car will have to negotiate with the chargepoint to start gracefully. But turning off abruptly when the car is drawing 2kW could be bad for the car. Not so bad if you just leave it on to allow the car to fully charge then turn off the charging itself, or turn off the charging via the car api rather than the smartplug, since then it will be able to close down cleanly.
(Does the car have an API to turn on/off charging ? That may be a better way to do it.)
Thanks, I can control the timings with the car app (Volvo on call) but I want to set it to divert power to the car when my home battery is full, the car cant do that by itself. I have been using a GE smart plug to control charge timings for a while and it seems to handle it OK.
TheDragon (GivEnergy) if you need any testers, breaking stuff that my developers told me was finished was my speciality!
Has this capability for the GE smart plug been released now? I can’t see any reference in the data sheet re automation capability and using battery status logic to drive it. Similar to above, would like to set my car to charge on the best agile rates, in parallel with AIO battery as it’s a 3pin house load.

pacemaker potentially. I’ve been using a Tapo smart plug for the last 6 months without issue.
I read through an eBay seller of these that GE have warned them away from such usage:
24/7/23 : Through recent emails with Givenergy I have been informed that the use of the plugs are not intended for high sustained loads. An example of this is to control an EV 'granny' charger.
Any update on this please. This response was over a year ago.

Its been confirmed that the GE smart plugs can only take 10A sustained load.
I personally use the MyLocalBytes smart plugs that are rated to 16A, automate with Home Assistant
