Usage reports.

Having suffered some recent internet outages - one self inflicted and other other due to our provider having issues. (Lost internet last Friday about 10:50 until Sunday morning and then down again yesterday for a couple of hours. )

It is apparent that the data used for the calculation of the energy usage is based on the uploaded interval data and not by using the cumulative data.
Which means any loss of comms at the time of upload will result in missed data and therefore inaccurate readings.
The odd missed slot is not a big deal, but they add up. I appreciate that using cumulative data will result in a spike when comms is restored- but at least it will be right (though if over a day/week/ month boundary could cause oddities.

@TheDragon (GivEnergy) I don’t know if this will be on your radar - but something that someone needs to look at I think.

So if internet fails, a small cache on the Dongle NVRAM?

It can be added as a request for sure, but prioritizing the bugs at the moment

TheDragon (GivEnergy) - a cache would be useful for short drop outs - but anything longer that the cache capacity would still mean lost data - so perhaps a hybrid of cache for X time and then revert to cumulative data if there is still missing data?

But yes, not a priority for sure - but I have seen comments from others about inaccuracy of data - and this could well be the reason.

positor1 Maybe, but unlike others I have never had an issue with the WiFi dongle dropping out. It has been my internet - recently due to supplier problems that should be sorted today (new supplier!)

I work in the metering world for work (one of several roles) and whenever possible use cumulative data. For this very reason. And have methods available to at least smooth the data out over the missing period to avoid spikes.

But having local storage would be even better (some modbus meters have this facility- but are significantly more expensive than dumb modbus meters)

My wifi is solid too.
You have a much greater understanding than I but simplistically I wonder if something as simple as u usb stick in the dongle could act as a buffer for unexpected downtime. ( i realise the current dongle does not have a port nor the software to utilise it but there is talk of a new design )
