Max charge to Battery

Can I charge the batteries at say 6Kw, rather than 3Kw to battery + 3Kw to grid. I have 7.2 Kw roof slates & 2 X 9.5Kw batteries.

slate You don't say which inverter you have so I'm guessing its an AC3. You can only charge at the maximum your inverter is capable of 3kw. If you have two inverters (battery attached to each) that would also work.

Thanks. Yes mine is an AC3. Seems a shame to be sending 3Kw to grid when I could do to store it. Would an extra inverter be complicated to wire up?

slate Not really - talk to your installer. However, there are a few minor issues GE are resovlving with multiple AC inverters. You could also consider using a solar diverter to heat your hot water using the excess going to grid. Search for Eddi or iBoost. There are others but they seem to be the main two.

Diverters can be used for any non-inductive load. So if you have a swimming pool you could also heat that.

A second AC3 is easy enough to hook up since everything else is already in place.

The key as always is, what are you getting paid for export.

Check with your installer about known issues running multiple inverters. There are issues including cross charing battery to battery. There is a new device coming from GE an EMS which should fix these issues.

I too want a second AC3 but my installer is not prepared to install one given the issues he has had with other customers running dual inverters. He said once the EMS is available he'll do it then. EMS due Q2 so next 2 to 4 months. Hopefully.
